Another Kmart Closing-Not Announced

The Kmart in my city, St. Clair Shores, Michigan, was spun off to be a Seritage property some time ago. Our city council just shared plans for Kroger to demolish it and build on the site within the coming year. This is one of the top performing stores in the company. I always figured as long as the Kmart format was around, our store would be, too. Even worse? It's being replaced with a Kroger supermarket, and there are already 4 within one square mile of my house. What a waste.

As the last post stated, you are right. As I said over and over again, Kmart is going to be sacrificed to keep Sears alive for a bit longer. The only real value Fast Eddie sees in Kmart as of now and until he closes all of them down is the properties and nothing more. Doesn't matter how well the store is doing or not, all will receive the same fate in being closed down.

I'm current working at a store that is suppose to be one of the top 25 stores in the country, yet I know deep down it is going to be shut down like the rest. Not that I would be full surprised, we barely get anyone coming into our store and most of the time it only gets packed because of tourists, not with locals.

I agree. I shop it regularly, and they always seem to do a decent business. This just proves corporate greed is winning the day, and that Mr. Lampert had no plans to truly keep Kmart a viable format. I guess his idea of "transforming" the company is exactly this-selling off property to make even more in future higher rent, not actually improving and investing in Kmart. What a shame. You clearly do not close down a top performing store IF you are truly invested in turning things around. I'd say this is curtains for Kmart, and it makes me sad.

Wow! The St. Clair Shores store is one of the better performing stores in the chain, and is one of the nicer stores. I have been in the store several times, and it's always looked great.

The store is in my district, and is one of the only stores (along with Clinton Twp.) that actually seems to make sales...

Joe loses another store.
