Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How Politics run Chevron - the bureaucracy is killing us

Its sad but very true. #Politics do play into who's being laid off. Recently I have seen many good people getting moved into roles that are clearly a backwards step in their careers and others who have no experience nor demonstrated they are capable of producing better being promoted to senior positions.

These things happen at all companies but the toxic environment at Chevron has seen managers stick up for their friends and punish workers who continuously out performed their co-workers and make their mates look insufficient.

Even 1.0+ rated individuals are at risk if their are not best friends with certain managers. Pure #GOLD

I suspect that many of you guys are confusing lack of ability and skills for advancement as nepotism and favoritism for others. Please guys, enough with the pathetic lame excuses. It's not always someone else's fault. Face the facts.

Not the same company I started working for straight out of grad school. In many ways it now feels like a small family company where despite your ability you're locked into a role because the next level up is being held for family.

5upv, College grads you say? Reading this drivel that you spew, you pathetic butthurt laid off loser? That's laughable at best. You are extremely ill-informed if you think that college grads come to lay-off sites to read the pathetic rants of laid off, asshurt losers and have no idea that the source is a bunch of incompetent losers talking nothing but trash about the company who rightfully cut their sorry A$$es- think again, son! - LMAO!

I had a manager who couldn't look me in the eye when we crossed paths in the hallway or across the table at meetings. I knew something was off and just as I suspected, I received the word of my layoff about a week later. These things happen and most of the time it's planned ahead of time. This manager had the knowledge that my 28 year career was ending, but couldn't stand to carry it around in my presence. When you know that politics reigns supreme in a company and there's nothing you can do but lay off a long term productive worker, that truth becomes a burden to some managers. At least the ones with integrity and a heart.

College grads. Read this blog. Stay the hell away from this company. You can do so much better. The company morale is horrible and 90 percent of employees miserable

1uag, I think most everyone understands Chevron has the right to terminate employment at any time, within the law. I think a lot of our gripes is about "WHO" and "HOW" the layoffs have been managed. I personally feel too many useful, hard working folks were let go and many less productive people remained employed. There has been much unfairness cast on good people. That's the disgust I think people are venting about.

You entered into a voluntary employment agreement with Chevron. Chevron reserves the right to terminate this agreement without cause.. Getting laid off s---s, but Chevron does not need a reason to let you go, nor is your employment an obligation on their part. Chevron is a hell of a lot more generous than most who would merely hand you walking papers and your last check on your way out of the door.

OP agreed I was one of the people who received a 1 and then was shot to S@@T when Layoff time came. Chevron's reputation has been tainted. It is no longer the company that everyone wants to work for. This is sad at the same time, because they do have alot of good people still working there. However speaking with these people, they feel that everyday is a battle. You never know who is going to back stab you or do things behind your back to make themselves look good. It is a shame. They have broken the team work mentality and moral is horrible. A few of my old co workers have actually cried on the phone. This is unreal..... I hope that they change upper management along with the CEO. They are so out of touch. Regardless all the decisions that have been made in the last few years has hurt chevron financially. I am sure the guy who dogs everyone on here will have something stupid to say. These are peoples lives, they have families and due to the atmosphere there health has not been too great. Praying for my peeps that are still there and hoping they have some relief.
