Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

The Root of the Problem...Hiring Practices

As a long time member of the auto parts community, the issue with AAP comes down to one common denominator...their hiring practices. Poor hires lead to poor decisions. This is evident from the top down at AAP. Most turnover could be eliminated by simply hiring the right person to begin with. Yes it takes longer, but this is quickly leading this company to it's end.

I've seen this at the store level. Not only I'm my store when they hired in a new GM but a neighboring store. They brought one guy in from a failed Sears appliance store and the other from a failing US Cellular. Our store had a good base and after a few months our GM finally got it going. The one in the neighboring store did not and his best employee left after a few month. He got fired 2 weeks ago. I mean if you're not going to hire from within the company, hire from the field at least, but hell if you're not gonna do that at least hire people who didn't kill another business lol.

Couldn't agree more with these comments. TG's salary is ridiculous. I'm really sick of seeing this Maserati in the parking lot here at corporate too. How come these guys don't take a pay cut for poor performance? They're the ones driving decisions and the decisions are poor. They could stop the bleeding and horrible hiring practices if they wanted but they don't. They're too busy tooting eacother's horns over how good they are.

I'll never forget a conversation I had with one of them over a GM in a DC they hired from Amazon. "He's amazing" I was told. That DC and their numbers are nothing spectacular. We overpaid for an underperforming GM there. Seems to be a common practice and trend as we hired another GM from Amazon a couple years later. This isn't Amazon and I'm getting tired of the culture down here and company wide.

From the time Advance appointed DJ as CEO, this company has been focused on stock prices for themselves, DJ knew he ( and all his best buy buddies ) would get their pay day no matter how much he screwed up, and bad hiring practices to put fewer and less costly employees were all part of it. Compare stock prices to when DJ left, to where they are now, and also consider what TG is making as CEO, it is seriously criminal.
