Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Just out of curiosity - about finding work after layoffs

  1. How many of you were laid off from Sears and able to land another job? How long did it take you? Any tips and advice?

  2. How many of you were laid off from Sears and still unemployed? How long has it been? What do you think you are doing wrong?

the first few minutes matter in an interview. Dress well , be well groomed etc. have good posture.

A layoff from Sears was actually a promotion. A better job, now, and much happier. The only mistake that I had made was choosing Sears in the first place. Bitter? No. I'm just another survivor from the Titanic. I still take cruises, and skilled at swimming.

I lost my SHC role a few months ago and I have been on a several interviews, I'm finding the consistent feedback I'm getting is that I'm either over qualified or under qualified for the role in applying for. I figure that the next big opportunity will eventually come, hopefully soon, as severance is nearing an end.

Personally, I was already kind of looking before the axe fell in Feb. So fortunately the wheels of recruiter conversations etc were already turning. I was in one of the various infrastructure IT teams, and was confirmed for a new job in less than 3 weeks, after waiting for their onboarding and paperwork it was 5 weeks to the day I started my new job.

As for tips, get your resume together and keep looking. Don't badmouth Sears in an interview (another thread covers this here) and appear positive, even if you're not. Employers like seeing happy faces come in the door.
