I left sears after working in the appliance department for 27 years and wonder if morons still come bustling into the store to hover about you to make a payment as you try to make a sale. We used to go to elaborate lengths to avoid these nuisances.

The customer doesn't know this though. You are viewed as any other cashier. They don't know the commission structure.

Well, if I was in a commission only department I would probably resent payments "bustling in" and possibly interrupting a possible sale also. Those people can be very aggressive. Also, just because they're paying down/off a sears card does not mean they ever bought anything at Sears. Sears MC can be used anywhere they take mastercard, to say nothing of discover card. When I worked in Hi just a few years ago, I remember one breathless member rushing in to make a $4000 payment on her discover for an appliance purchase made at a competitor. The previous poster is right. It's 2017. Figure out online payments or mail them in. As short staffed as the store's are now, they should focus on sales.

I don't mind taking payment if I am not working with someone. If I am with another customer and some idiot barges in, waving their envelope and yelling "I want to make a payment!" I look at them and ask them if they have any sense of patience and respect for others, then I tell them that they will either need to wait until I am finished, go find another associate , mail their payment or pay online. I am not going to step away from a sale to take a payment.

In my experience, the ones yelling and demanding assistance with making a payment are not elderly people, it's usually self-absorbed people in the 40-50 age group. They should be capable of using a computer or smartphone to pay their bill. This is 2017.

@jtn, a my Sears store we give only cash & checks to the cash office. The credit card payment coupons go back to the customer with the payment receipt attached. You can still scan older bills for the bar code. What made the customers mad is that no notice of the change in billing format was given to them. We look your credit card up for purchases with one id. Maybe this will change but that's how it is right now.

The barcode was being used by associates to ring up merchandise long after the customer left. The associate would retain the payment slip with the barcode. No one knows whether it was the associate who took the payment or someone in the cash office with access to drawer contents (checks, payment slips, coupons) that actually handed off the barcode data.

So now, no payment slips or look ups for payments at Sears and Kmart. And definitely no "without a card" look ups to make a purchase at Kmart. They will do it at Sears with two forms of ID, one of which must be scannable.

If as much care had been taken to avoid roping customers into that credit you wouldn't have had as many nuisances.

Is it really so hard to remember that those customers leaving with product wether it be cash or credit that have contributed to your paychecks over the years?

now they just get ticked off because they bring In their bill... and oops they forgot their card.. sorry cant take your payment no barcode any longer .. have a nice day come back once you have your card, oh sorry it is do today .. lol .. sorry not my problem

It was the Discover customers who were the worst. They quit taking payments last year before I quit. It was like gasp I have to mail my payment oh nos cuz I don't have that internet. LOLz
