Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Should I return to Sperry ??

People, need your advice and opinion. I got an offer to return to Halliburton after 2 years of being laid off. Salary is half of what I was getting before. However, at the same time got an offer with a operating company in Saudi for a in country position with double pay and benefits. What should I do ?

Should I take rotation and return to Halliburton or should I opt for better money and go to Saudi ?

I have a young family at home, and I am not sure about work conditions and schooling in Saudi.

I am not sure about the longevity of the Halliburton job ? Will I be laid off again or is the situation improving ? Please pour your thoughts.

You say you have a young family at home. What does your wife think about possibly living in Saudi? She would be the one dealing with a huge lifestyle change moving there. I would consult her and see what her feelings are about the matter. As a woman there's no way I'd follow my husband out to any Middle Eastern country. I don't want to live my life covered up and restricted as to where I can go and with whom I can speak. If she's all for it, then more power to all of you.

There is not a plural form of the word advice.

I sincerely appreciate the advices. I guess I wont settle for a lesser dayrate. I have a figure in mind, below which I will not join back. Please continue to pour your thought. Yes, surely if I get fooled twice, that would be shame on me.

People are coming back with raises so tell them to show you the money. They are wanting people back for less because it helps their bottom line not yours.

The business of the 3.5bn dollars could be the start of the end of this once good company. When the merger intent was announced a lot of bankers & analysts questioned HAL's logic so the risk was never insignificant to many outside the company. It seems HAL didn't see it though.

I was in the same boat, received an offer to return " and yes there is a waiting period of time you have to wait depending on you severance", the offer was about half I was making before being laid-off. Lucky I could get back into my previous engineering field and not taking any more crap from Big Red.

Thank you for the replies. The only pull is the rotation they are offering. I am not keen in building my royalty for the company. That brand royalty finished the day they laid me off. I do not think Halliburton will attempt another ever, since the 3.5bn dollars penalty has dented their confidence real bad.

The 50 percent cut in pay to have the 'honor' of coming back to work for them, shows you how much Halliburton valued your past efforts.

You think that Halliburton cut their day rates 50 percent, or cut any of management's pay? That is what your pay cut would be paying for, and since Sperry was one of the PSL's up for sale prior to Uncle Dave's FAILED merger', who is to say that Little Dave won't attempt to sell it off again?
