I fail to see the logic in this. Sears' stock jumped after the announcement it would be selling some Kenmore brand appliances on Amazon. How will this improve our standing? The only thing I can see happening is selling fewer appliances because people will have much more choice when browsing Amazon. Even when looking for a specific item, there will be all the recommendation around it that might sway people away with lower price or better functions or a dozen other things. I might be missing something, but I do not see this as a good thing at all.

Reason stock price went up is because "Amazon" was in the head line. Basically putting a huge company basically makes Sears shine, but this is going to benefit Amazon more in the end. All Amazon needs to do is the listing they are just going to become even more profitable.
The Sears name still holds weight with some people.
The beginning of Sears online only. Let the transformation continue
This is the end for the brick and mortar stores. There is now no reason for anyone to come into a physical store. You can now by the two exclusive things that Sears had going for it, Craftsman and Kenmore, elsewhere. The only good thing here is that the installation and repair services might be bought by Amazon or used by Amazon, since they are starting to get into that business.
This move will not save SHC so dont get your hopes up.
If there are any brick and mortar stores left in a few years they will only sell mattresses and appliances. This is also the end of any commisssioned sales people.
I just wonder how the Kenmore name, which has been destroyed over the past 10 years, will do when people can compare prices and reviews on Amazon.
It just looks like Amazon wanting to have some installation and repair services infrastructure at a cheap price. They can fix the problems and then buy the whole shooting match at a discount price.
SHC may survive but it will not be in retail and it will be much smaller.
I really think the delivery teams across the states vary greatly. We habe two separate teams of 2 who do all the deliveries in my area. One of the two teams is amazing. The other is an absolute nightmare.
@ ekl. Not what I have experienced. I have had a whole house of appliances and a mattress delivered to my house over the last two years and with the exception of a change in delivery date for the mattress (which at the time I was upset about and then thought get over myself there are worse things) everything was great. The delivery men were respectful and helpful. Why are you trashing these guys? They work hard.
Sears delivery & installation services are dreadful!
One more reason not to walk in a sears store ..... good idea hmmm for who ?
Sears is going to stock ,warehouse, deliver and install Kenmore as well as amazon products. More to this deal than all of you realize .
First responder is right, the market is highlighting the fact that there will be delivery and install business for sears (must be highly profitable). Suspect they will also deliver and setup other appliances in a bargain with Amazon. SHLD needs to win back marketshare in appliances. This is a start. BB has remodeled all their stores with heavy emphasis on appliances. Again, lots of money there. Home Depot/Lowes appliance sections look like Sh@t.
Parents will tell kids "Kenmore is great" had them for years and now they will too.
This is big, big enough to save SHLD, I don't know, but its big. Unless SHLD blows the execution, then its going to be awful because Amazon will drop them sooooo fast....
actually a very good point. If Sears isn't competitive on Amazon, it will work against them.
"Customers who viewed this product bought..." something from Best Buy.
Amazon means a much broader net of potential customers, especially young customers who would normally never touch a Sears store, online or brick and mortar. This translates to more money being made for Sears. It also means more stores closing, which means more money for Sears. All in all, Sears may survive. As for Sears employees, especially at the stores, update your resume, look elsewhere. You do not have a future with Sears. Put all that fear and worrying into action: find another job.
Sears has a lot more to offer than just brick and mortar retail stores. This is the right move especially for the other business units in Sears, especially installation and repair services. Yes this isn't the best news for retail, but Amazon did say they wanted to have a brick and mortar presence so it might ultimately not be that bad for our store locations.
