Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

It is all about the money

UoPX sells a product, Degrees. An Auto dealer sells a product, vehicles. At the dealership you agree to pay so much a month for so many months to own the vehicle. No guarantee that the vehicle will not break down or continue to perform. At UoPX you agree to take so many classes at so and so price and you will have a degree. No guarantee that you will be educated or with be able to attain a job.

When the international units of Apollo Education are legally separated from UoPX then UoPX will be sold piecemeal or as a whole. It the mean time UoPX will be stripped to the bone to make bottom line profits. No new technologies. Increased work around. Follow the letter of the law such as no one earns more sick time if current sick hours are already at 58 hours. Increased surveys to let employees vent but no change. New personality traits testing to help employees know themselves but not functionally applied to the work environment. New lowest cost activities to create fun, like wear a jersey day and have a pot luck. And the most famous one of all, the solution to all and every problem no matter how severe. The Snack Cart.

It is and has been and will always be all about the money. Listen, not about education. It is all about the money. Stop!! Repeat to yourself. It is all about the money. Now you see how every decision is made. How every conclusion is drawn. The potential student is not different than the poor smuck walking onto a car lot to purchase a vehicle. It is ALL about the money.

I bought my degree years ago and employers would rather hire high school graduates than hire anyone from this flop house. The vehicle comparison makes no sense. You have the option of buying an extended warranty or selling it and recouping some of your loss. A degree from the P is not even worth using for toilet paper as it cuts you no matter what you try to do with the worthless pile it is.

You're mistaken that UOPX sells degrees. If they did, the graduation rate wouldn't be so low. Rather, they are selling a dream to people who are ill prepared to either pay back their loans OR complete a degree program. And whatever it takes to get the applicant to believe the dream is fine.

It is all about the money, just not from selling degrees.

I think making money is fine but UoPX make money by weakening their product, education. Harvard makes money but does not relax the education standards like UoPX. So now, we have a weak product that cannot compete.

Ok, I kinda walk into a car dealership expecting to get taken to the cleaners in some fashion. So I do my research and bring my cousin Vinnie to help with the bargaining/negotiations when the time comes to buy my little black money pit of repair despair.

But until very recently, that mind set was not needed when searching for a college/university to enroll in. Now of course, yeah, you need to read up about the school you are about to sink beaucoup $$ into for your degree but the only people that do that are savvy/smart or come from a family that 'gets' education because you are so not the first person to go to college. But the vast majority of students attending for-profits or even the more predatory not-for-profits like SNHU have no clue what they are doing. No. Clue.

They don't get that it is all about the money, honey. The highly paid administrators, most of which have some kind 'VP' (VP of Student Shoe Size Assessment and Sock Compliance) title take up the majority of the funds that come in (we know it is not the woefully underpaid adjuncts or the bullied and harassed admissions and advising grunts). So yeah, it's about the money. The senior vice deputy provost wants his bonus money so he can pay for his kid's Stanford University tuition....Embrace the snack cart 'cause that is all that is going to be coming your way for the next foreseeable future.

You're fooling yourself if yiu dont believe all colleges are 'all about the money'.

Agreed though. Less snack cart, and give me a raise.
