Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

July 27th 2017

Have been hearing a rumor of layoffs to occur on July 27th for a few weeks. Yesterday I get a meeting request for our entire department to take place on July 27th. Anybody experiencing similar occurrences?

In 2015, they laid off like 900 enrollment reps in late either late June early July. I wouldn't put it past them to lay people off in late July even though the busy season is approaching.

Which departments will be impacted on 7/27? Will this be a set of cuts across all departments?

@OP, can you tell us which department(s) got the meeting request for 7/27?

@Babba yaga I disagree. It seems to me that they would want to get rid of people before the start of the fiscal year. Doing a layoff a month ahead of the close of FY17 could keep the cost associated with layoffs off of FY18's ledger. Keep in mind, we are owned by venture capitalists and their goal is to make their assets as lean and profitable as possible in order to sell acquired assets for a profit.

Right. And they wouldn't lay off full time faculty when all results from the FT program were positive regardless of the spin they tried to put on it. They will layoff as many as possible in order to maximize profits on paper so they can sell off the pieces.

No truth to this... they wouldn't lay off during the busiest time of the year... with August around the corner, they would want us to focus as much as possible... if there were going to be any layoffs that would most likely happen in September. The begin of fiscal not at the end.

It will be a layoff meeting. That's what happened to the full time faculty. A non-specific meeting request for 160 people and a quick "Your positions have been eliminated. You will hear from HR by email in the next 24 hours." Sorry.

So it seems that meetings are being planned for 7/27. If they are not laying people off on 7/27, what is happeneing that day?

Yes, huge layoff. Just your sorry behind is being let go for being so naive.

I hope you enjoyed your career and have your resume ready. 7/27 will be your final day of contribution to UoP.
