Thread regarding Sears layoffs

When management lie... I seek the truth

At this point I really don't care anymore. So a few months ago my store manager has this morning rally. At the rally he states that our store has signed a new 5 year lease on the building. I don't believe nothing he says so i do some research on my own. Searching away i found out that we didn't sign a new lease and in fact our lease is up this October. This past Sunday we started the going out of business sale. I mean the summer blowout sale. AP tried to tell me that the lease was for the property of the whole shopping center when our store address was the only one listed. Of course i shot him down with that dumb statement he made.Last week I was informing some fellow coworkers that jobs were being cut last Friday. They asked where I get my information from and i told them our fellow coworkers on thelayoff.com. AP overheard the discussion and decided to jump on here and see what I was talking about. After reading some things he comes to me and tell me that people on here don't know what they're talking about, its lies, and it's funny. Funny enough the layoffs that were mentioned on here actually happened. It's Monday and I have not seen or heard from AP since Thursday when I kept shooting down their lies. So I say this thanks to the people on here that give reliable and useful information. Things like that call them out on their bluff, but most importantly help us coworkers see what's going on and have a chance at making the right decision and next move for everybody and their families. This is not a game. This is people lives and livelihood. So I say THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Not quite sure why she would not tell the truth. We all know which stores have the best wages.....but I am guessing and by no means excusing....that she too is facing some serious stress and isnt really saying what she should be saying which is that none of us know the future and to just do your best and what is best for you and your family.

@2pgl We all had to keep a straight face as best as possible when she said Sears pays a competitive wage and offers the best benefits in the business.

It was like being told that a neglected truck stop restroom smells like lavender. She was dead serious. Somebody snickered and had to bite his tongue from a full-out outburst.

We all had a good laugh after she left and wrote her off as severely delusional. Maybe she was still stuck in the 1980s, a time where a lot of what she claimed was true.

@2pgl. I dont think anyone at HE pretends like we are doing great. In my department, we are all very honest about how things are going. We just dont give up as far as trying to make things work.

1vxw- And that is why SHC keeps taking advantage of the employees. Every manager refuses to tell the truth. Everyone has become a "yes" man or woman. Everyone is too scared to tell the truth and let those in management know exactly what is going on at store level. I have told my DM exactly what is going on at Store level and since he is a decent human he understand and doesn't pull a bunch of B.S.. But some of the higher up act like the company is doing great and we are fully staffed and are paying some of the highest wages with benefits around.

Every time they ask for more and everyone runs themselves ragged and takes less and less for the same pay or less, it just gives managment a reason to say "See we can do it with less and the employees will put up with it" Until we all stand together and say we will not take it anymore and we will not be abused or we all quit in unison it will continue to go as always.

@1vzw, I wondering if everyone in the store who did not raise their hands would be fired on the spot by the DM?

The comment the DM made about SHC benefits is laughable. $7.25hr is a joke.

If the DM fired everyone that would be opening a can of worms for a possible lawsuit. In addition to that the store would have to close for the day since no employees would be there to run.

If I was that DM's boss I would have fired her on the spot for making such a degrading remark towards those employees.

If everyone had raised their hands in a show of solidarity, I wonder if the DM would have fired everyone?

A couple of months ago our district manager came to our store and took over the morning rally. She told us that there had been a lot of hogwash floating around "that layoff site" and that is why there are bad news articles all over the internet about Sears. Then she proceeded to tell us that "we have it good" and is a very competitive in compensation and benefits and if we didn't think so, we were welcome to leave.

Here's the kicker: she asked how many of us, by show of hands, liked working at Sears? Out of fear of keeping their jobs, everyone but two people raised their hands, she told the two that didn't to go home. Those two employees were on their way out anyway, but the general consensus is that no one at our store likes working at Sears.

Even our store manager was shocked at how our district manager conducted herself.

Many of my coworkers are well aware of this site. I'm sure every single store have at least a few employees that are aware of or are even active participants on this site.

Almost the same thing happened in my store except it was the AP who was layed off along with the 605 and a few others.

They also just remodeled a store in our district and we were told that this is the model that all stores will be like in a few years i.e. there is a plan to remodel all the stores. I have a real estate license and I notice that the store that was just remodeled is up for lease or sub-let. This is not even a store that SHC owns, so I don't know what the deal is.

Just because the remodel your store or even renew the lease does not mean that they are not closing your store

Supposedly my store signed a 5 year lease ,isn't this fascinating. I honestly don't buy in to the new lease considering the financial performance of the store and company .

All the way down the food chain when sears finally calls it quits, it's just not employees of sears who will feel the pain but others will too that don't even work for sears

Prayers to all

Then why are you still working at store that's is about to close since the lease is up? Doesn't add up, if you think about it?

@1prs - No, you are not off base. What you described has been the modus operandi of every SM that I have worked with, except for one. I've worked with over 10 SMs at Sears.

@1prs. It is your store. I have seen plenty of store managers who hustle all day on the floor.

Your AP department should be worried about themselves. More cuts to them coming. I work in a high theft store and AP is losing additional hours after having lost many already.

Why not take this to your store manager?

You really can't blame store managers or corporate for any of this. They have to say what they are told. In many cases, they are asked to sign agreements saying they will keep quiet about things. At the end of the day, we work for Eddie Lampert and he has the right as our company is practically private to do whatever he wants to do. The other thing is many times the store managers and corporate as just as "in the dark" about this stuff as everyone else. They are just working day to day too.

I think all Sears Stores will close sooner or later. Just start preparing yourself for another job. Severance is not that great for full-timers 8 weeks max, depends on your years, less weeks

for some, and 8 weeks max. God Bless to all of Sears and Kmart workers.

My store manager was "off" last Thursday and thanks to this board, I knew he was in a Store Manager meeting, which did result in layoffs. My store lost two people. Last year we were told by our District Manager our store signed a 5 year lease, he "high fived"us then. What does it matter now ....Is it even true? This board has been dead on with it's information. I come here to find out approximately when I will be getting laid off, as I am an ASM. I continue to look for a job in the meanwhile.

Those "5year leases" don't mean anything in bankruptcy!

I would agree with the comments made here. This seems to be the most reliable information. What happened to the code of conduct we all had to sign about honesty, intregrity? Seems to have flown out the window!!!

Op here... you can't make this $#!+ up. I had a coworker of mine less than 15 minutes ago show a manager the photo of our lease being up in October. Almost word for word the ASM said exactly what AP told me last Thursday. The only difference is that one store is in one direction and the other store is in the opposite direction. This is why I'm seeking better employment. I can't take this company questioning your intelligence because you catch them in their lies.
