Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Do members think they can treat us like garbage because they think we are closing?

Just today I have been screamed at told I was a liar and told they could not not wait until I lost my job and all because I wouldn't take a payment without a card. I have been treated like sh-- because someone lost 1.36 in points. Why are they so angry?. I'm stressed and This is s---ing the life out of me. If I hear one more time "That's why your going out of business" I'm going to scream.

To the customer's who want to complain just because you think you can, don't come in the store, no one is holding a gun to your head to shop at Sears. I had a lady mumble under her breath because we didn't have a cheaper razor in our store "that's why you are going out of business" , now she had a Belk's bag so I wanted to tell her why didn't you buy one there instead of bringing your behind in here. Hate to say this but, everywhere you go you can have bad customer service that includes Belk's ,Macy's, and J.C.Penny, Wal-Mart, and Home Depot.

Kmart and Sears customers have a lot of guts when it comes to confronting the employees. However it goes hand and hand. The employees aren't happy because management both in store level and corporate dirty them poorly and the company itself is anti-customer. The company clearly doesn't care for customer service, and the customers know this.

@abd I do the same. Playing stupid has become my normal response to rude customers.

I think it goes both way, but its most customers going at workers. Customers have that stuck in the head "customer is always right" which makes them feel they empower you and can get away with anything. I have learned how to deal with customers in a smartass way. They act like jerks they basically lose my help. They ask me a question I act stupid I respond stupid.

No one has the right to disrespect someone employee or customer.

1lat, that's because they know they won't get reprimanded for anything in that particular location. At my kmart, for example, the associates working in the K Cafe routinely eat food in the prep area and are rude to customers. Across the store we have this problem. I called the HR hotline multiple times about other employees stealing in front of customers, being outright rude to customers, our store manager (who i have not seen in six months because he hides in the back or isnt even on the premises on his scheduled days unless he's closing) and the list goes on.

It goes both ways. I was mocked by two associates in one store multiple times for bringing my elderly mother into the store to shop. One had the nerve to put her hands on my mother. Thankfully I do not work in this location. The manager said she would speak to the associates about their bad behavior. Next time I went in they did the same thing.

I think the human race in general has lost respect for other humans never wanting to treat others the right way. Those customers returning stuff and causing a fuss shd be required to work at sears for a shift.. maybe it would change their attitude in how they treat employees but we know that wd never happen.

@nwt- exactly. I have been irritated by the policies of companies plenty of times. Especially Verizon, lol. But I have never and would never take my anger out on a customer service associate or manager. Because I know they're not the ones making the policies and have no ability to change them. It blows my mind how mean customers are to those of us working in the stores. I honestly think it's because they believe throwing a big enough fit will get them what they want. After having a lady berate me for 10 minutes today (she wanted to return over $100 worth of clothing she bought 3 months ago), I finally told her I'm sorry but I won't stand here and have you talk to me like this anymore. I started to walk away and she took her pile of clothes (which included a shoebox) and threw them at my back. The box hit me right in the back of the head. I turned back around and she said I hope that hurt you stupid b***h. Great day.

As a lead I have excused beliggerent customers out of the store after giving them a stern warning and asking them to come back when they can show some civility. One was arrested as he refused to leave and continued to be beliggerent towards the responding officer (return policy issue), the officer was being very patient but was left with no other choice as this idiot kept screaming and shouting and saying every swear word in the book.

I will be the first to say that Sears is not perfect (in fact, it's in sh-tty shape) but that does not excuse abusive behavior towards front line associates who have no control over company policies and operations.

They are mad for a reason...this company is not run to satisfy customers, give good service, or bring a quality product to the customers. Your job is to listen, help when you can, and say your sorry when there is nothing you can do. I do understand that many customers have a sense of entitlement and treat associates like s**t, but that is part of being in business. You get nice customers and you get some not so nice customers.

It's just as frustrating for the customers to have to deal with the SHC B.S. but the difference is they are paying money for goods and services they are not receiving and you are getting a paycheck to put up with it.

Customers treat employees like garbage because employees haven't been nice to them in the past.

I do not believe anyone lumped everyone into a single category.

@nem I agree even if MCA's can ring what makes you think they are all sitting around. MCA's are busy and more now that the hours have been cut to the bone. I have been pushed to learn the cash register, but why? Why should I learn how to use the register when I dont gain anything from it. If you want to know who is lazy its our managers that are always hiding in the office crying and whining about numbers not doing anything for the long lines.

first off stop calling customers "members" its banal and insulting secondly they are screaming at you because the Sears concept is total and utter sh*t. Thirdlystp blaming yoursleves- tell the punters the issue is Eddie Lampert. Lastly they are right, the total package at Sears/Kmart is why its going out of business including employees.

Well they were correct this is why you are going out of business. You of course could have gotten it when it started getting bad but you chose to stay so you kinda set yourself up.

Not everyone is standing at a cash wrap running their mouths some of us are putting out stock, straightening, or helping other "members" on the floor. So please don't lump everyone in one category. Also, some "members" are upset because they go to other departments with no cashier or one cashier and the lines may be backed up but guess what, you cut staff and cut hours and this is the end result. So blaming associates for something they can't control isn't going to solve anything.

No one should be abused. I walk the stores on occasion and see employees in clumps visiting on the store floor, not making themselves easily available for employees needing assistance. Just one person's observations

provide service to the customer as you're supposed to and then provide them with convoluted directions to the "complaint department" via SM offices

Lots of unhappy nasty people out there. No one is required to allow someone to talk to them that way. Next time just say you dont deserve to be treated that way and see what the person says.
