Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How do I take "stress days"....

...or does that not exist? I am at my limit. I can't take it much longer. Do I call CLMT (Centralized Leave Management Team)? If so, do I get "points" or a write-up if I take four or five days off from this madhouse? I'm not one that calls out or asks for days off left and right.

I'm a lead at a Sears store. My mental health is truly suffering right now. I need to "heal" so I can can get the hell out of here and find another job.

Have your dr write you off work then take FMLA leave and you can take FMLA leave intermittently that way your job is protected

But try try your best to not let upper management get under your skin, that'sgivibg your power to them!

YOUR health has to come first!

Call an ambulance while at work to take you to ER you don't want your blood pressure to get beyond what is safe

And.. there is always payment plans to pay for your dr visit

Best wishes to you

Oh, I know I'm definitely not alone. I'm sure tons of other leads throughout the company are feeling like they have to carry the weight for a lot of their stores. The pay is dismal, some of our competitors pay their store associates more than what Sears pays its hourly leads. I think someone said on here a while back that a lead has to do everything, from janitorial work and cashiering to everything an SGM does, including conference calls, sales planning, performance management, etc., and everything in between. And when things go wrong, the leads are the scapegoat.

That's not to say that non-leads don't work hard. I know some really great associates throughout my store with an awesome work ethic and can always be counted on, without complaint I should add. Too bad they aren't on my team.

I learned long ago that you can only do what you can do. I have been told hundreds of times to get such and such report finished, then because I would rather help customers and make a few sales the report doesn't get done. I get a few emails about not filing some report but then another report comes due and they forget all about the first report. So whatever it is that they want over and above doing retail, you know, helping customers and selling merchandise, is secondary to me. I have never been written up because I am a good employee. Some of the people in our store have tons of points and they are still here becasue they are good workers who don't call in, they do their jobs and they work hard. The HR and SM write them up for the wrong shirt or some dumb reason but I think they only do that to cover their butt in case someone looks at the records. But they never fire anyone.

Ask for the day off or just call in for a day. Stop stressing, is it worth worrying about a company that doesn't care about you?

You are not alone... there are many of us feeling the same as you. You do need to take some time for yourself. Request the days off and be firm.

I feel like I can't let things not get to me because everything seems to on me. All the projects and deadlines delegate, they usually don't get done to satisfaction or done at all. My direct reports don't really do s--t so a lot of the time I have to pick up the slack. I've had discussion after discussion about their job performance and insubordination, and yes, I've even coached them but it goes nowhere. A while back I started a thread about this. I get little support from other management; I feel like I am being driven out for reasons unknown. I have never called out, I do my job and I am firm in following store policies and procedures. Maybe it's because I am not there to make friends?

So it looks like Sears doesn't care about their employees enough to have option for stress leave or at least a way to take just a little bit of time off ASAP without having to face disciplinary action. I was kind of expecting that. Unfortunately it looks like I will have to get "points" for attendance just to keep my sanity.

I FREAKING LOVE SEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@uom Right on at this guy my store has become crap its limited in staff and its just a stress all over. Do your job and don't let them get to you. What are they gona do fire you? You go straight to unemployment if they try to contest you can win this case especially if you been in the company for many years. I highley doubt they will fire you especially if your one of the good eggs. Its getting to a point where they don't want to lose the veterans because they know they will be screwed in the end. You gota stand up for yourself OP don't let the BS get to you. If you need that time off than request it. If they don't approve tell them why arent they doing this you can report this issue to 88sears, but you already know they wont do anything go to labors commission and they will get a report on their a--!

I'm not the OP, but I could be. Same situation. For me, it's not so much being short-staffed and running around. I mean, that part stinks. But add to that the fact that customers are almost always unhappy, even amgry. I understand why, but it's hard to be yelled at and berated by customers so often everyday. Add to that the constant unreasonable demands from market teams, and thw factcthat they never even bother to say rhanks or good job or anything at all. Oh, and don't forget that as a lead in this company, that axe is always swinging over our heads. It's a lot to deal with. OP keep your head up. Keep looking for another job. Just tell yourself everyday that you're just biding your time until a better offer comes your way.

I understand being shortstaffed and running around, but dont let that get you to the point of a breakdown. It is not worth it. If you need to have a day off unpaid, I would just ask for it.

Yes, but if you're really that stressed out, take the points and the write-up.

@ocx -- wouldn't I still get a write up or points of I had a "personal or family crisis"? Sears seems pretty inflexible with their attendance policy. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think only a doctor's note gets you out of write-ups and attendance points, that and jury duty.

Invent some sort of family emergency or personal crisis. Be vague.

That's the thing-- I can't afford to go to the doctor to get a doctor's note, Sears doesn't pay me enough to see one. I will never meet my deductible.

I do have vacation time, about 15 hours. However, I'd have to wait two weeks for just about 1-2 days worth of vacation to be approved, and even then, no guarantee if that would be approved.

I need time off ASAP, just 4-5 days. I have never called out but unfortunately you cannot just call out without being "written up" and getting attendance points.

Unlike other companies that care about their employees (even just a little bit), I doubt Sears has stress leave. Heck, I don't even care if it's not paid. I'm not concerned about taking unpaid time off. I'm concerned about my well being and I need to be in a stable frame of mind to be able to continue working at this hell hole just enough until I find a better job.

I just want to keep my sanity while I still have it and whatever is left of my psychological well being without any worries of repercussion, and I need to do it soon. I have headaches and fatigue from just coming to work every day lately, so it may not just be all psychological.

" If they fire me then I will collect unemployement "

In MOST cases if you're FIRED from a job unemployment compensation IS NOT AVAILABLE

The company can contest your claim saying you were fired for cause and pffftttt you're SOL

for da' uninitiated that schitt outta luck

I'm thinking more lead positions will be eliminated in the next few months. I'm sincerely hoping I'm one of them.

I just do what I can when I can. I don't stress about it too much. I figure what are they going to do fire me? Not a chance. No one will want to take my place nor does anyone want to work for this company. Mind you, I'm not slacking or goofing off, I just do the work I can and let the DM yell or scream all he wants. If they fire me then I will collect unemployement and the DM will have to run the store himself.

Good luck, blessings.

Same here. Exactly. I am also a lead at a Sears, and with all the added responsibilities we've had to take on as salaried managers have been eliminated, I feel totally overwhelmed. Spend everyday running back and forth covering departments that have no coverage and taking manager calls which are usually about the credit card payment bs or the return policy. I have nothing left at the end of the day.
