Why are no salary hikes or grade changes given for lateral moves ?

The only logical reason i see why most Cisco employees salaries are so stagnant is that the execs are busy filling their own fking dirty pockets for doing absolutely nothing.
It's encouraging that Cisco can appreciate good performers. There needs to be some incentive else it's pointless to exceed expectations. I don't want to get into the 'peanuts' talk since a mature/giant company usually pays proportional to what it can reasonably afford. If and when Cisco turns around its downturn, things should ideally be a bit better, but that's not my concern.
@OXHDuuK-3pwj: What is encouraging? that Cisco is paying year end bonus? We Cisco employees poor things came down to this level that if company throws some peanuts we get excited.

Sure can. Your bonus is dependent upon company performance and your individual performance factor. So take your bonus x by company factor (0.85) and x your IPF and you get your bonus.
High performers get more. It can go up to x2 I believe.
I think you answered your own question. A lateral move is just that. A move to a position at the same level. So if you do a lateral move you are not going to see a change in GL and will almost never see a change in salary. If you move to another position at a Higher GL it is no longer a lateral move it is a move with promotion.
Does Cisco differentiate top performers via its bonus structure ? Can they get a 1.5 x target based on performance ?
@OXHDuuK-2rlp - true. I got exactly one tiny salary bump in almost 10 years. Everything else was bonuses or stock, which means they can decide to not pay out.

Is this true that Cisco does not hike salaries, even a bare minimum ? Apart from the target bonus, does the compensation ever rise ? Are RSUs too hard to obtain ?
Just ask for a bigger bonus from your mgr. Make lots of ppt slides for him/her.
Depends on the hiring mgr if you get a raise or promo. If folks got rewarded in transition, then the existing team members who have been in the queue, may regret their loyalty. There's that.
Sales roles will pay better than corp functions.
Promotions don’t even result in raises.
I have managed to negotiate the salary increase of whopping $2,000 on the annual base salary ;-).
They just don't give any raise for the lateral move. Companies like Cisco, you better negotiate higher salary at the time of entry. Once you are in, you may or may not get raise every year and lateral move will not fetch you raise either. There may be a logical reason for not giving a salary raise for lateral move - people may try to bump up their salary by switching jobs internally every year or two since --goes back to my point above -- in Cisco you may not get a salary raise every year.
