Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Why I work for COP? Positives

With all this negativity, I wanted to take time to recognize why it is worth to work for COP? Only positive comments please, let the Lord bless your heart. Someone can start another thread for negatives.

My first positive is VCIP, I have yet to meet someone from other oil company in this time to tell me they received bonus.

Hey OP FU, you worthless company stooge/manager! You might as well work at Sears as they will

probably last longer than COP.

Why I work for COP? Positives

I don't have to go to the orifice on Saturdays and Sundays.

well...we get preached at incessantly about SPIRIT values...although they don't really have anything to do with what we do when we show up here for work every day (at least they haven't for the last 16 years, maybe that'll change soon due to some magical occurrence, but I doubt it)...

I suppose being able to show up every day is a positive, OP...vs. being thrown into a chipper/shredder, dontchaknow?

I know several people who've voluntarily left L48 over the past several months...not because they were underperformers, but because they were competent, cognizant individuals with no faith in the hazy (at best) and ever-changing direction our "leadership" is supposedly taking us in.

certainly we'll get an inspirational email tomorrow...or the next day...or sometime next week...or sometime next month...but for sure by the end of October! Uncle Ryan promised...

achtung, drones! please refrain from thinking until the next corporate communique...and since it'll probably be devoid of actual substance, put thinking on hold until after the next 4 corporate communiques...to be delivered sometime between now and...well, whenever we get back from Zurich. it is the summer vacationing season, after all. let's be civilized about this thing...it's not like you'd know the difference, anyway.

@OWzJcMK-1god, I worked my last eight years for COP and 28 years for other oil companies (majors and independents. My lowest assessment was a 3 in my 3 year when I had 4 supervisors. I did not kiss a-- just did my job and helped many others do their job better! COP left me when they announced leaving deepwater! So I EOI'd out! You go on and believe what you want about those leaving COP or being forced out. Yes some where good employees, some should have been released that are still employed. You may be in the latter statement or just a millennial that doesn't know better! Best of success for your future career!

Nobody is leaving L48 except for the ones that are underperforming.

Good people are fleeing like crazy from L48 and happily working elsewhere. I suspect even more will follow unless this next round actually makes meaningful changes in leadership positions.

Good people , pension , VCIP the never ending layoffs are exhausting. But regardless not a lot of defections because it is a good place to work.

Except for you! They passed over you, despite your poor performance.

The good news is we have got rid of all the under-performers, which is why the company is turning around. Good luck to those 4s and 5s out there finding work!

I like working here because you can really screw things up and they pay you millions of dollars.

The ELT must know how to really run a company (in the ground). The ELT has been in-place since May 1, 2012. Since that time they have managed to accomplish:

Shareholder Value (Market Cap): DECREASED by $16 BILLION from $69 B to $53 B

Annual Shareholder Dividend: DECREASED by $1.9 BILLION per year from $3.2B/yr to $1.3B/ yr

Net Production: DECREASED from 1.6 MMBOEPD to 1.4 MMBOEPD (2nd quarter 2017) with company guidance that production will DECREASE to 1.0-1.2 MMBOEPD by year-end 2017 following completion of asset sales.

Proved Reserves: DECREASED from 8.6 Billion BOE to 6.4 Billion BOE with additional reductions by year-end 2017 following completion of asset sales

CAPEX: DECREASED from $15.7 B to $4.8 B

Employees: DECREASED from 16,900 to 12,200 with further reductions in 2017-2018

All of this accomplished since May 1, 2012 by the in-place ELT and the BoD did not intervene. A rejection of the Executive compensation by 68 percent of the voted shares means nothing. The vote is non-binding. What a set-up. Why would anyone want to leave. Keep the money coming and coming and coming. I am so happy here.

I go to "work", do little, pretend to work, and they pay me a lot. It's fun gossiping about incompetent overpaid corrupt nepotistic management. I have lots of days off and my boss leaves me alone because he's afraid of the truth about his empire.

VCIP is not bonus! It is part of our compensation, it is just variable each year. An equivalent job in another company that does not have a variable component probably has a higher base pay. That is also why you still receive some VCIP payout the year after you have been severed, you earned it!

It's hard to find positives for COP right now - however, if and when market recovers, once the money starts rolling in everyone will be singing a different tune.

Been in this industry for 40 years now, it's always like this - feast or famine...

OP, you do realize this is the layoff.com, right?

I used have great pride in this company. And I expected more after the split. But now, post-split, I have seen things from our management that no company that truly cared about people or accountability would do. And this is them, it's not "surprising" lower oil prices.
