Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

People Leaving APC

I spoke with an old APC co-worker this morning whereby he mentioned Anadarko is experiencing a large number of people leaving for better opportunities. Several key players in the Denver office have decided to move on which begs the question...why do people remain with a company that is apparently a sinking ship and one that is taking on more and more water as the stock price falls with no recovery of the oil price in sight? Perhaps I can answer my own question...Hmmmm, let's see...maybe it's the 3 hour work day, free parking, and the famous Core Values and safety moments during birthday and new hire lunches?

It’s impossible to ride a snowboard 6 miles along a paved bike path from the top of Vail Pass to the parking lot at Copper Mtn during the summer months without snow (unless you are pulled). I was referring to riding a longboard (a board approx. one foot longer than a conventional skateboard) that allows for better carving and downhill riding if the rider is so inclined to do so. The problem with riding longboards (skateboards) along bike paths is the heavy traffic that one encounters. It is entirely possible to reach speeds of 50mph on this particular stretch of bike path, which, specifically for me, I like to keep it around 30-40mph. The path from Breckenridge to Farmer’s Corner is another fun ride, although the grade is not too steep (green run). Copper Mtn. to Frisco also follows a bike path which offers the rider speeds to approx. 30mph which is a great training run (blue run). Vail Pass to Copper Mtn. is considered a black run due to the steepness, narrow path, and turns.

Walkathons etc serve a useful function of raising awareness of a social problem. The ice bucket challenge helped spread awareness of ALS. Because of it hundreds of thousands of people got their 15 seconds of fame by participating in a spectacle so ridiculous that it caused people to stop and think about why anyone would do something so unpleasant. And then post the meme on the internet. It was fun and completely self absorbed and raised a LOT of money some of which actually went for medical research. I am going to start a GoFundMe page for hurricane relief. Awareness will be raised mimes dressed in full white face "walk against a strong wind" like Michael Jackson's moonwalking. Then pretend to blow away like a tumbleweed. A second onlooking mime will pretend to cry, then stop and pretend to think, and then sit down and pretend write a check. I'm hoping it encourages ordinary people to pretend to think and pretend to write a check. And then of course go out in gangs and beat the sh-- out of some mimes.

The wiki says that there is nothing wrong with a post about snowboarding but it is like having a happy divergent thought while you are in church. You just don't do it. You need to remain somber and serious and sorrowful for JC's suffering.

So when there is a high visibility crisis on the news, it is not cool to express any happy thought. You need to be "mindful" of the suffering of people you don't know and really don't care about even though the world is full of tragedy everywhere and constantly. Even better take part in some empty and socially useless gesture that tells the world that you care like Hands Across America, a walkathon, or prayer.

It is an even worse to make a satirical comment like the one about RAW and his pool toys because it actually makes direct reference to the hurricane. Never mind that it is a satirical comment on the indifference of corporate management to the suffering of people in the community. There is no exception for satire.

If you disagree with the wiki feel free to add your input. That's why it's there.

It's almost 3:23 and I am about to post a slew of really bad jokes.

"Good luck to everyone" or WhateverTF people say when they pretend to give a sh-- .

Oh Oracle of the Wisdom of the Crowd, please saith. What makes a joke tasteless? Why is a posting about snowboarding too soon?

I have checked WikiConsensusRulesforTastefulPostingsonAnonymousMessageBoards.com and yes it is still too soon. You will have to wait until tomorrow @ 3:23 PM to post any new tasteless jokes about Harvey.

Until then it will continue to be acceptable to post humor about all variety of other human suffering that goes on around you but occurs with at least three degrees of separation and has been discussed a total of no more than 180 minutes over the last three days on CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS. PBS doesn't count because they don't talk about anything anyone cares about anyway.

There is no exception to the time limit for gallows humor even if you are directly affected by the event if it might offend the innocent sensibilities of another reader. There is no exception for satire as readers will take everything literally so that they can claim to be offended, take the moral high ground and shame you.

After the time limit, Harvey will be old news and Irma will be off limits.

Thank you for your patience.

It appears that someone knows me and my ways! Well, I must continue on my journey and seek out those beautiful asphalt and concrete surfaces that so cleanse my soul and bring forth bounties of paradise of scrapes and broken bones! Ah yes, I will continue to skate the bike paths of Summit County, with or without the naughty words!

The hard part about skating Vail Pass to Copper Mtn is not only the tight hairpin curves and the overall steepness of the path (plus it's extremely narrow), but the people riding bicycles who are becoming more and more aggressive towards longboarding. They don't smile or wave or nod their heads...they simply say naughty words under their breath and peddle on. It really bothers me and hurts my feelings. I don't believe I'll be skating Vail Pass anymore. Well, maybe just one more time...

Does anyone know if the Waterway taxis are operating? I'm hoping they can pick me up next Tuesday when the office opens. I need to go in and wiggle my mouse so people think I'm working.

Still more lies. "Think of your move to Denver as a fast track alternative up the corporate ladder! With your 100 IQ, you'll be the one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind!"

Wait. That last part is true.

Exactly. The Woodlands is colonizing Denver. Fire some of dumb--s stoner locals, move a friend out there to take the job so you have a place to crash when you want to go skiing, avoid future explosions that are eating into profitability. All part of the plan. Thank you for your understanding.

You are correct, I would never fit into The Woodlands environment nor would I consider moving to Texas (Houston, Midland, Dallas, etc). Hot, flat, redneck, and geeks who rent skis at Keystone who are dump enough to pay $180.00 for a lift ticket and proclaim we are not wanted in George Bush’s state. Again, you are correct. I would never live in Texas, however it seems Texans are moving to Colorado in droves…

Not better. Just varying degrees of bad.

Midland is like a prison colony. People are exiled there because they failed the friend test. Banishment is better than unemployment they think. Or losing your pension if you're an old timer. And if you're not talented, creative or ambitious enough to find something else, you deserve your fate. Nothing wrong with it, the world is full of "C" students.

The Woodlands locals are all show and no substance. Expensive sports cars, fake boobs, church goers who think they are on the path of righteousness for his name sake but are completely full of s--- Spend, spend, spend. Keep your supply of petro-crack coming. It's like a Little Enron.

The best thing about the home office is that you get a front row seat to watch the self-aggrandizing personality-cult leaders ruin a once great company.

Denver employees seem to like to let things blow up while they are in a haze of m-r-j-a-a smoke. I have never met a dumber bunch of people than the employees there.

Denver employees would never fit in The Woodlands so I too am thankful you are not my neighbor lowering my property values with your plaid-wearing womyn. And you despise to their core answering to a bunch of Republicans. Stay in Denver, find another job.

Spoken like a true executive secretary, someone accustomed to issuing authoritative-sounding decrees that are greeted with a disdainful jerking hand gesture. You should might try phrasing it "shalt continueth" to reinforce the laughably condescending tone. Thanks for the laugh!

Discussing the Denver and Midland offices is appropriate and will continue. Furthermore, thank God I don't have to wake up every day and greet the morning in Houston, Texas or The Woodlands.

The reason they can't fix the problem is that they are the reason it's a sshow. Think about it. They allowed their GMs and supervisors (some were GMs and supervisors during the big '16 and subsequent) pick and choose their favorites, performance reviews be d__. Now, they are stuck with their buddies who underperformed then and underperform now. Some are even Directors now. So, the "lucky" talent has been looking around at their underwhelming peers and incompetent management for a while now and when an opportunity shows up, out the door they go. I'd say have every employee, no matter what level, have an honest 360 review and look at pre-'16 performance reviews. The words, not the number, because we all had the same number.... Everything '16 and now are cooked, or cooked, so don't add any real insight. Cull the bottom 10%, no matter who, and then in a few years the company might be healthy.

It isn't only the Denver office. Midland has seen a lot of folks walk out the door. Upper management thought the whole incentive bonus and relocation benefits would keep people around at least a year or two, but that's flat out wrong. Companies that are hiring are offering to buy out relocation and incentives... Scary thing about all this is that the VPs and SVPs know there is a problem and have no clue how to fix it. All I know is APC can't afford to loose anymore good people before the entire thing comes tumbling down.
