So, I dont have any insider news (any HR people on here?) but layoffs are coming for for salaried and hourly and there will be alot of salaried jobs moved to regional centers and repeatable processes outsourced. The steam turbines and generators that are built in schenectady will eventually be built much cheaper by ex-Alstom facilities non-union workforce. Schenectady wont "close" but it may become just a service shop, or they could try to sell part of the facility again, but because of all the toxic sludge there, dont hold your breath for a sale. Regardless, I heard layoffs were coming in September for salaried, but this could be delayed by the integration of Energy Connections with the business, meaning it could (but will) be before the end of 2017 for the first round, with more to come in 2018 and beyond. With Buffett jumping ship, and the fact we are still making the same dinosaur product we did in the 70s, expect the layoffs and cutbacks to continue. Expect management to continue to not give a crap and give you unmatchable goals so that you cant meet them and thats how theyll decide who they will keep... oh wait, who am i kidding... they will save the golden boys, who need help to do their job, but the worker bees will go. New leadership is more of the same. If you think the atmosphere is negative and toxic now, just wait. If you decide to stick around and watch a dinosaur die that is. Sad, but true in upstate NY.
