Just got canned. Sitting in my car bawling. I read this website everyday for the past three weeks. It didn't help. No one is safe.

I applied for the buy-out package and got it- my last day was August 3rd and I am very glad I decided to take the package. I don't understand how hiring green employees to replace seasoned employees is going to work. I really feel for all those who were let go and pray something good comes your way. Dedicated, long term, reliable employees walked right out the door. We rode the brand, right to the unemployment line.
Everyone who leaves Windstream is happier - they almost have a vacation-like glow. Even if initially it is a shock, leaving that atmosphere is great for your overall health and happiness. Being in it colors your view so you don't realize how bad it is.
Was layed off from a very large telco in 2004 and having that experience taught me many lessons. WIN was no different in its approach to network infrastructure, it acquired companies instead of building on its own.
Financial loss reporting, 15+ re-orgs, VPs reporting to VPs reporting to VPs, reduction of raises and benefits were all similar signs of a company that was sinking fast. For me, I left for a great opportunity and couldn't be happier. If you are still employed by WIN, I suggest you act in your best interest, not theirs and move on before the market is floooded with talent.
I also got hit by the 7/27 layoffs, don't want to divulge too much information as my group was pretty small and not located in Windstream's main territory. It took about a week for it to really hit me and start getting over it. I just sorta spent the first couple days in a fog, as I've never had this happen before in my 10 year career so far. Ah well, honestly, I had a feeling something like this would happen sooner or later. Just from publicly available information, you could tell Windstream had problems. After announcing a loss of over $100 million in their 2Q financial results and having their stock price literally drop to the price of a box of cereal, you figure job cuts would almost certainly come next. To all of you who lost your jobs, best of luck to you! Hope we all find something better!
What location did they lay off one of the techs from, I heard they was going to start lay off techs but no one around my area seems to believe it
"I have been saying for sometime now that the day I get let go is the day I win. I just won."
Agreed, stress level, way down. Toxic place
I also got hit on 7/27 after 44 years. When my boss told me I replied, "I have been saying for sometime now that the day I get let go is the day I win. I just won." It was like an enormous load was lifted off of my shoulders, I had no idea how much stress I was under.
@OI6VZ1V : I got laid off on 7/27/17. It was a shock, like a punch in the gut. I totally understand how you feel right now. You probably don't want to hear this but IT WILL GET BETTER. It took about a week for the shock and stress to fully leave my body. I did a lot of self-care during that time. Now, the tears are gone and determination has set in. I'm focused on landing my next job...a BETTER job. The market is excellent for job seekers and there are companies out there offering better compensation than Windstream. YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN WINDSTREAM!! :-)
Kayne, thanks for the helpful post, can't quite figure out if you're dead, how you're posting. Any insights on this ability?
I mean just look around you... Steve jobs... Dead. Picasso. Dead. Walt disney. Dead. Im dead. Think about it.
Project Layoff, the point is, you're not safe, no matter what department you're in...
Yeah - this seems to be a board for letting off steam, which is therapeutic and great.. but helpful information would be nice. Location/others impacted/group, etc. This way you can maybe give people a heads up or something.. useful?
Laid off a technician in our office this morning.
What group where you in?
