Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Retired from WIN

I left WIN in March 2014, fortunate enough to get an incentive to go (after almost 41 years and seven - 7 - Corporate names). The most obvious thorn I noticed a couple years prior was that the company was being run by cable TV executives with no idea of the telephony end of the business. Just meet the numbers on a spreadsheet - to hell with service levels. I live in a small rural area but even at that, there is a very complex network of transport services coming through the switching office going on out to the world. I hear a LOT of unsatisfied WIN customers complaining about service levels and BB speeds (or lack thereof). If I had a decent option for another BB provider, I would go for it. Windstream service s---s.

Yeah, I left in that same incentive package, March 2014. Company was going to hell in a hand basket the several years prior - too many cable TV and fiber transport managers came over from the other side and replaced most of the experienced telecom managers. I understand that the landline business is slowly dying, but it is still very viable and a good revenue stream; cable TV folks do not have a clue about service levels, budgets, network improvement needs, etc. and sure as hell don't understand how to be good corporate citizens in the various communities - you don't build customer loyalty just by "cloud services" and "VPN" and throwing around all the other hi-tech offerings in your advertising. Customer want and expect quality, dependable service - it's called consumerism . Just meet the damned numbers on a spreadsheet, that's the WIN style of things. I have WIN BB and it s---s most of the time (my only option is CATV BB and I am not going there). I left with almost 41 years of service; the "new generation" of techs/retail store/etc. have no concept of taking care of the customer. I am glad I was fortunate enough to retire (I am not dependent on a WIN retirement check, mine rolled over from the various seven (7) corporations during my time there) and I do not miss it one bit. My mental health and stress level are much improved since March 2014. I do hate the see the remaining employees get screwed by WIN - because that's what is coming.
