Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

It is in the best interest for the city of Sidney and the employees of Cabelas in the sidney area if the merger does not go thru

This may not include all the employees in the Sidney area perhaps a few employees have huge severance packages if the merger goes thru. The majority of employees the Sidney area does not have huge severance packages however.

Please post the link from the internet you talk about stating Cabela's is going to file bankruptcy . I know you do not agree however I think for Sidney THE SITUATION involving Cabela's is a more then a million times more important to the city of Sidney then stray cat problem. people not picking up after their dog, the painting in the tunnel at the part, truck parking , or basically ever discussed at council meetings.

No, I'm a current employee. In fact I worked last night 11-7 and didn't get a lunch because there weren't enough cashiers, never are these days. The first part of my post is sarcasm, well except for the Brady Bunch comment. I wrote it to be as dereogatory as I could toward the "Sidney City Council" poster who seems to think this is a great forum. Guess what, there is a much bigger picture to this story than what the city council is doing in a back water mid-west town. As to my sources of information, I see that question here a lot when comments are made that go against the standard party line. My source is the Internet, do a search for, "Cabela's stock news," grab a cup of coffee (like I am this morning before I go to work) and get informed. Or you can transform into that new species I've heard about the, "Sidney Bird." They look like an Ostrich with it's head stuck in a prairie dog hole and are native to Northwest Nebraska

sorry Mr. English I was laughing so hard at the poster who said Cabela's is going to declare bankruptcy if the merger doesn't go thru. This post was so funny. I probably didn't make the proper sentence structure because of the laughing.

what I get a kick out of his bass pro is giving 4.5 billion dollars for a company that has more debts then assets. lol

I do get a chuckle out of the "yep" post. So the reason Cabelas is in such a terrible financial state is Sidney - perhaps the Colorado tobacco has an impact on this thought process although it sounds like it is from one of the illustrious execs that are being bailed out for failure. Cabelas is in very dire straits and getting worse. With all the so called executive power that was brought in and that is there, Tommy and crew have driven this wagon down, period. He doesn't run to town and ask what he should do at every turn. This mess is self inflicted from within period. And if this merger does not go through, the company is sunk, period - if it survives, and that is a very big if, it will be a a tenth of a percent of what it is today. Tommys model is unsustainable- the numbers are proving that - everything is in shambles, stores, inventory, employees and most importantly the customers and vendors belief in the brand. The only thing that makes it all work is customers and with all the news, they are going elsewhere.

Sidney's fault - what a stupid assertion

I guess I am somewhat confused on the last post. To start with if Cabela's is going to declare bankruptcy why is bass pro offering a net of 4.5 billion dollars for a bankrupt company. Secondary if the merger doesn't go thru Cabela's will face the possibility of certain situations which are negative in nature and I have never heard anyone stating bankruptcy is one of them. I assume you are a ex f employee of Cabela's by your post but are you basing this on any other source .

Yep because everything revolves around the town of Sidney, the only place that has anything to do with the multi billion dollar corporation known as Cabela's is Sidney, everything is always about Sidney....... Almost like hearing Marsha, Marsha, Marsha in the Brady Bunch.

Ever think maybe, just maybe, the reason the company is headed for Chapter 11 and liquidation is because of the thought process in Sidney????? Yes, TM has a track record of killing businesses but maybe it's time for the folks in the "Green Palace" on the hill to look in the mirror and take some responsibility for the death of the company as well. Maybe it's time you take some ownership of the current state of affairs in Sidney and with the company instead of clogging up the message board here with barely coherent ramblings. And if you think for one minute the company will survive if the Bass Pro deal implodes you really shouldn't be drinking this early in the day, it's bad for your liver.

I do apologies to the last post. I think I mistaken you for the poster on this site who will state something and then post on and on how great a post it was from (supposedly from other chatters). I misread your post to quickly. I read it as smart post instead of smart posts. sorry

To the poster who said finally a smart post. I assume you are referring to the post you just made. I do agree with a lot of your post. HOWEVER I THINK THERE WAS SEVERAL GOOD POSTS MADE EARLIER. If you are indeed referring to yourself. Do you really think this should be called a smart post?

Cabela's is trying to hire because so many people are leaving/jumping ship! People from outside the Sidney area have no interest in relocating because of the current situation/uncertainty! The local hiring pool is shrinking.....Now Cabela's is desperate, more than ever, to hire people. I know people at corporate who are doing the jobs that used to be done by 2-3 people. More people leaving than can be hired. Not a good situation! I know the bank has offered retainers so people wouldn't leave.

My advice to the poster who said Cabela's couldn't not stay in business without making huge job cuts at the DC and corporate. Maybe this poster should try to become familiar with the structure of Cabela's in Sidney. Do you think Cabela's is spending thousands and thousands of dollars to just waste money and act like they are hiring. No Cabela's is sincere and they are in need of hiring a lot of people at the DC . My advice to you is turn on your radio, buy a newspaper or go to the Cabela's website .

To the person who said if the deal doesn't go through, it will be business as usual for all of Cabela's. No , that couldn't be farther from the truth. If the deal doesn't go through, Cabela's couldn't continue on their own without making significant cuts. That means jobs at retail, maybe closing stores, cutting jobs at corporate and the dc. Take one look and previous earnings numbers and Cabela's is on thin ice, with or without BP. No way do they walk away from this deal business as usual!!!!

I am basing this opinion on the fact at this point if Cabalas remain in business as Cabela's I think most people would agree the retail store, the distribution center and the corporate offices in Sidney is almost certain to keep business as usual. If the merger goes thru bass pro has said they will keep a present in Sidney (that could be one computer and one computer operator in Sidney who knows ) . One post on this site stated bass pro will close down the competitor Cabela's and simply fire every Cabela's employee. another poster stated bass pro will fire every Cabela's employee in Sidney and bring in 40 people from Missouri to run the Sidney operation.

the previous post is from the from the same poster I am sure who torn be apart for stating a week ago does anyone have any ideal (instead of idea) why the price of stock is going down. This was a week before the stock probably lost and additional 10 percent. I am trying to discuss issues instead of this nonsense. Perhaps some of my thinking come from the poster (own post) on this web site of the effect of a bass pro buyout. The poster may start my checking out some of the post from this website on the effect of a bass pro buyout would have on the Cabalas operation in Sidney.
