Most people fired yesterday were long time employees with ages ranging between 40 and 60 years old. Is discrimination the case here? It looks like it is. 900 people filling a class act suit would not be a bad idea. The top bosses (District Managers and up at store level and corporate office managers) still keep getting their huge bonuses at the cost of these hard working people.

This happened at Cost Plus World Market as well. DM's were told to get rid of high paying SM and they also got rid of the Beverage Dept and combined this position with Gourmet Dept. They also eliminated the Furniture Dept person as well. The problem was that DM's didn't lay off SM, instead they "bullied" and harassed them in tell they quit. The DM in our district threatened SM repeatedly and HR and above did nothing.
Age discrimination is virtually impossible to prove. Lawyers generally will not waste time with such 'perceived' cases.
From everything I saw, it looks like the long time highest paid managers were let go...

Not really, in my district most people were below 40 and had worked there 15 plus years, so age deffinately wasn't a factor..and if anyone payed attention they should have seen this coming. We took managers out of receiving And had part time associates fill the slot, cds orders went to part time associates in a lot of districts etc
The problem is, if you want your severance pay the form you sign waives your right to sue. Not many of us can afford not to have that income. I'm in my early 50 and they kept the 37 year old manager who makes less, ( and has 20 year less experience)
