Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

ConocoPhilips among best places to work in 2017 (oh, the irony)

Inc. published a list of best places to work in 2017, and ConocoPhilips ranked 35. I wonder how working every day while dreading the next round of layoffs figures into this, but meh...

Phillips Petr. definitely did not purchase an "equal" in any sense of the imagination! All Phillips got out of the deal was crap Conoco properties and brain washed employees that don't know the meaning of saving money. No surprise they had to sell out due to incompetence.

It was a "merger of equals" comprised of 56 percent ownership by Phillips shareholders and 44 percent ownership by Conoco shareholders based on market capitalization. Upon the effective date of the merger, Conoco stock was de-listed from the NYSE. The merged entity traded under the Phillips NYSE listing which was changed/ re-named from P to COP.

Prior to the merger, Conoco traded briefly as an independent company following spin-off from DuPont which acquired Conoco in the early 1980's to fend off an un-welcome takeover from BoonePickens

4vaj, you should go work for CNN because you are spinning this exact opposite of what happened. Conoco bought trash Phillips with trash employees and has been wrestling with this ever since. Finally will get rid of the last of them on this round of layoffs!

Phillips Petr. was the premier company to work for until they purchased Conoco, then everything went to sh$t with all the bullsh$t processes and overstaffing and overspending. Pity

COP is a great place to work, and will be even better once we weed out used-to-be-prouds and the used-to-work-hard type of people.

I used to be very proud to work at COP. I'd leave in a heartbeat if there was another opportunity. No strategy, other than to peel away and sell the business one discount at a time.

It used to be a good place to work. No more.

I spent 30 years with Conoco feeling privileged to get to experience and see the world and many domestic locations. I looked forward to every day I went to work and looked forward to working with great and talented people in very challenging projects.

Dread is probably not a factor they consider. Nor apathy, self-loathing, or hopelessness. Perhaps the rankings are all about cafeterias and paid parking and free Spirit magazines and whatnot.

All those surverys are a joke. I remember in Calgary when COP won the best employer award and managers were jumping for joy.

Its all corporate BS.
