Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Eddie just posted, there are still more to come

Sears SHC posted Eddies comments on his blog.

he stated there are still more to come, not sure if he was speaking of closing more store or jobs being cut. But we as employees have to sit and wait to see what is next .

this straight from his blog....I believe the changes we have made will begin to build more confidence in the future of Sears Holdings among our vendors so that they will increase their support and put us on a more level playing field with our competitors. While there is still work to do, we are determined to do what is necessary to remain a competitive retailer in a challenging environment

Guys you really are missing part of the picture. Vendors know exactly what they are doing. No one is in the dark at those levels. This is all above us and to try to work it out via explanations on these sites really just makes all of us look clueless.

Eddie is not tricking any vendors. Vendors are well aware of SHC's financial problems. Vendors have whole departments that analyze their customers financial position and ability to pay. That is what they set the interest rate at or the terms of payment.

@1iik I don't know why Vendors are still supplying Sears. Vendors should start pulling out before it piles up this is some BS from the Eddie trying to trick its vendors that they are safe selling to Sears.

It amazes me that as employees why sit and wait? You have the power. It isn't going to get any better. As history is proving it is only getting worse.

Former employee here. I feel a lot better.

Why would any vendor ship to SHC? First, you have problems getting paid for the merchandise. Second, if you do ship the merchandise then it may or may not make it to the floor because of all the cuts. Third, if it makes it to the floor your merchandise will be displayed on dirty, rusted, broken shelves. Not really an appealing look for any item. Last, well there is no last, if that isn't enough then you deserve to lose your money.

"Having the right formats and right sized stores will help us put Sears Holdings in a better position to meet the realities of the changing retail world. In May 2016, we opened a smaller-format concept store in Fort Collins, Colorado, and we also recently opened another smaller-format store in Pharr, Texas. The smaller store concept allows us to focus on some of our stronger categories, complemented with our Shop Your Way membership program, home services and credit offerings. We expect to introduce additional smaller, specialized concept stores in the upcoming quarters while simultaneously reducing the number and/or the size of larger-format, less competitive stores."

Is Eddie saying that future format of SHLD will be appliance and mattress stores? Then get ready to kiss the remaining full-line Sears and Kmart stores goodbye!

Never going to happen. Vendors are abandoing SHC, and with the closings of stores there is less cash and less merchandise being ordered. As far as vendors holding on, why would they do that?

If I cannnot get an order for more merchandise I will not give a quantity discount and then to not get paid. No deal

"As I have said before, the level of support we have from our vendors is an important factor in defining the size of our business and the number of stores we can operate responsibly going forward. We reached the point in the past 12 months where some of our vendors have reduced their support thereby placing additional pressure on our business."

So in other words, SHLD is now operating at the discretion of its vendors. That does not sound like a transformation to a promising business model.

Unfortunately on the Sears side since the 90s we have had unprofitable stores. They just chose to keep them open when we had more money. Today they just cant as we dont have the money.

my favorite part of eddies part is when he says he is very thoughtful when deciding which stores to close lol

Eddie has been flapping his lips for years now about a transformation and a return to relevance and profitability. Yet here we are, closing more stores, laying off more associates and scraping to get by.
