I got a joint replacement for while working for Halliburton two years ago.

I am a salaried employee.

I applied for Medical Leave Of Absence a two weeks in advance on the advice of HR.

They use a third party medical service that assigns a nurse who calls weekly.

The surgeon must fill out a form too.

We argued over the length. The nurse wanted eight weeks while I wanted just four, and did that.

I was actually healthy before that, so had a bit of vacation at the end.

Medical Leave of Absence pays full salary and benefits up to six months in the US. After that there is the possibility of Extended Medical Leave or long term disability.

The big cost is the 20% copay until out of pocket maximum. That will be $4250 in 2017 plus some uncovered costs like aid devices in home, etc. Amounts over 10% of income are deductable on taxes. FSA or HSA is even better. Expect a blizzard of paperwork as dozens of bills arrive.

Time for you to cash it in and go lie on a beach somewhere. You should have spent less time sleeping on the job and more time working harder and faster.

If you're still working, and haven't been axed by the oil crunch, it's no wonder your knees are shot.

I'd check your throat lining also, may have a little stretch marks...................

Did you elect long-term disability when you renewed your benefit selections last fall? Looks like you don't remember, so go to "My Benefits" and check. If you didn't sign up for this (at an extra cost), you'll have a few weeks of full-paid leave. Not sure what happens after that if you didn't elect LTD.
