Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Truth or Fiction

Mentioned today on a business insider blog..Target is showing interest in buying out the Kmart side of sears holdings..They are opening smaller stores like mini targets, one in California. Makes sense but is this another rumour....

This was pure fiction, Target has no interest in old Kmart stores. I work in corporate and Kmart is considered a dead breed of stores and Target would not want to be associated. Their main competitors are JC Penney and TGMaxx, where Kmart and Sears are dead money

Can't see Target taking on more than select locations. In way too many cases the physical assets are so far gone they would require a complete teardown. Most remaining KMarts are in less than desirable locations--older retail strips, smaller towns, including some towns Target has left in the last couple years, etc.

The other piece of this is that Target isn't going to make any major move in the foreseeable future after their Canadian disaster. A lynch mob of shareholders would show up at HQ!

So target is occupying a space that Kmart leased or owned. That's a far cry from target taking over Kmart. Give me a break

The Anaheim, Ca kmart that is closing in July will be getting a mini target which target plans on doing quite a few in the future. According to the Orange county register.

Some of the stores with company owned real estate (not yet signed over to Eddie's cash-in, Seritage, in other words and not leased from a third party) could be of interest to other retailers who want to expand their footprint. The price Eddie could get for these handful of locations would be fairly low, though, considering the actual business isn't worth much and most of these stores would need to be upgraded. I doubt Target would be interested. They could just open up a new store in markets where they're under developed and drive Kmart out easily.

I left the company in 2013, but when I was still there rural stores seemed to be doing better business. I could see a "Shopko Hometown" or something of the like taking over some of the square footage that Kmart occupies in locations where Wal-Mart is the only other game in the area.

A full-out sale of Kmart to another retailer is probably a pipe dream.

LOL did you google Kmart and target for that story? Guess what, maybe you should actually read an article. They are referring to Kmart and target Australia LOL. The Australia brands have NOTHING to do with their American namesakes.

Please. Why would target be interested in a dying brand or a bunch of outdated crappy stores? Give me a break. Someone is dreaming

Wondering if it is target. And if a new company does take it over they will probably hire the Kmart employees....That would be good...

I was told by an end buyer that Kmart will close in the next few years but reopen under a new name. He didn't say anything about sears
