Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Glad I got out while I did

I left SF in Concordville, Pa in July 2011 and all I can say is, from reading these posts and talking to my friends that are still there, I'm glad I left when I did. I saw the writing on the wall and saw through all the Team Manager BS of "things are going to get better". I was told time after time by my coworkers that I was wasting my time, I had been at the company too long and I would never be able to leave and would be stuck with them. I was hired by another carrier and given a $10,000 raise and treated better than I ever was at SF. I have since the left the industry all together as I despise working claims. But to all of those that stuck it out at SF thinking things would get better all I can say is that there is a way out but you have to ignore the naysayers and take the initiative. Don't fall into the "I've been here too long" mentality unless you're a year away from retirement. Looking at other carriers doesn't hurt and you may fall into a better situation like I did. If you don't ask, you'll never know so start looking NOW!

I spent 7 years at the Farm, some years were good, some less so. When I sum it up, it was a wash for me. You meet many lifers at the Farm, people who are comfortable or people who believe they are contributing and adding value, there is nothing wrong with that. With this being said, I see that this board is polarized too, some people are defending the decision (the moves/office consolidation) some are against it.

For me, this just perfectly describes the Farm as I remembered it - a multipolar organization where each individual has his/her own career story.

Good luck to all, big changes are coming over next couple of years.

It's like Scientology. They've all been brainwashed. I too, was brainwashed. I left after 20+ years and found a more challenging job in Insurance, making more money, working partially from home, and being treated like an adult.

That's your experience, there are many of us who are more than happy with how the company treats us and our fellow co-workers.

I respect your opinion, but this is not similar to my experience.
