While this site is about problems with layoff's, etc. as a long time customer of Cabela;s before being an employee the question of one man controlling the out door industry by purchasing Cabela's and owning Bass Pro I think will make more people decide they want choices in their product purchasing power, and not having to pick the better of two evils". I for one will certainly start product shopping more with the few mom and pop outdoor vendors still left?

I was buying from Cabela's when it was just mail order outside of Nebraska. These were pre-club card days and I had to send a money order along with my merchandise order.
As soon as the Club Card was introduced, I got one.
Eventually, I retired from my regular job and went to work for Cabela's. I was all in on Cabela's for many years. I have never set foot inside of a Bass Pro Shop.
After working for the company for several years, I was completely soured by the experience. When I resigned from the company, I had found a higher paying and much better job than working retail. It wasn't all that hard to do, so have hope.
Today, if I need equipment of supplies, I go to small privately owned sporting goods stores. Most of the time the prices and quality are better than at Cabela's.
The small privately owned businesses are the heart of this country and I do not mourn the passing of yet another giant corporate owned super store.
