Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Say goodbye to IT Jobs in Bentonville. Say hello to jobs in India.

It's in the news. The Trump administration is examining and vowing to curb the rampant mis-use of the H1B visa program that was flooding the US job market with cheap labor from India. In ISD we have more H1B holders (associates) than you think. Then consider the number of contractors that are here with H1B visas and you can see where this is all leading.

With the threat of H1B visa reform looming, the strategy is to reduce tech jobs at ISD (layoffs) and shift work to Bangalore and to more offshore contracting. ISD leadership has no interest in keeping a US work force since everything can be done remotely.

In my 19 years at Walmart, I have never been so discouraged and felt so betrayed. I doubt there will more than a very minimal tech (ISD) presence in Bentonville by the end of 2019.

I remember seeing this topic many months ago. Then, I wasn't sure if it was true but I'm convinced now. I don't believe H1B hiring is increasing that much, but, more and more work is being quietly (or not so quietly) shifted to Walmart in India. More new work is being shifted there, as well.

Bentonville IT jobs are being reduced but offshore hiring is increasing. We might as well move the David Glass building over to India. It's just a matter of time before everyone in IT in Bentonville is gone.

And they wonder why AES scores were so low.

Either way, the tech jobs aren't going to American citizens.

I don't blame people wanting to come here for a better life. But this needs to be regulated better. It's sad what is happening.

Folks are going to have to wake up and vote with their pocketbook. Don't shop at places that blatantly harm American jobs.

Right now, at this point, I don't think any associates at ISD would believe anything leadership said on this topic, or any other.

But, you can't ignore the facts. IT outsourcing to India (both onshore and offshore) is more popular now than ever before in the IT industry.

Don't think so, the shift is away from moving jobs to India and the stock performance of Indian outsourcing companies reflect that. More likely is that IT jobs will move from Bentonville to San Bruno.
