Thread regarding Colgate-Palmolive Co. layoffs

Sad times at Colgate

So many young people are leaving Colgate. Once upon a time you would see young people stay 10 or 12 years. Nowadays, it's 3 to 5 years. New employees are having a hard time with middle management. Older employees are just trying to stay afloat.

I have been at Colgate for 25 years. In that period of time I have seen the good and bad. But it seems like the bad has become worse. Middle management is on a roll with managing with respect issues in all departments with crazy justifications. Employees walk around the hallways upset or crying in a corner. I use to hear people laugh when they walk around. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Definitely sad times at Colgate Palmolive.

Read this here @JiUqRX0-dxlg, and it hit a nerve. I left Colgate a year ago after two decades with the company. I was sad to go, but the situation became unbearable. I hope situation improves for the sake of my friends who are still there, but it does not look good.

If you "don't see a way out" you are pretty much saying you have no skills and are unable or unwilling to do the work to get other employment. That comment speaks more about you as a person than the company.

Colgate is a good company with good family values. I came here recently from another big consumer company. The management is no different than in any other company. Like everywhere, there are good and bad examples.

The problem of Colgate is that it is too conservative, slow and rigid, which negatively reflects in the fast changing business environment of today. One thing that struck me when I joined was how outdated the company was. It was like a trip back to nineties; labs, infrastructure, logistics, procurement... everything old and manual. Hopeful this will change soon...

You might be one of those Middle manager. Who is happy to work.. Or one of mgmt.'s favourite..

Did you come on Merits ? Last few hires I have seen are just dropped from other dept. No interview

nor Skill-sets are required.

Anyone who is working hard in IT and no power, knows how it is to work for Management who are

inhuman.. Few years back, Director or IT lied to then CFO when came for tour about DR..

Next day he was so panicked, that he wanted to get project of DR done ASAP.. Idiot don't even know

how to spell DR.. Let me give you hint, his nickname was "Meatball".. Go figure yourself out..

Colgate is a good company and with great family benefits. In my years at Colgate, middle management is the blame for many of the personnel issues at Colgate. We must also include HR. Keep in mind, I would say we only have a good 5% of middle management that are nice and fair. Sadly. ..they are retiring. With the Verp it is my hope a positive change will occur. I am wishing. ..They promoted so many up and coming with the same toxic mentality...I am not sure...but I can hope. Let's see what happens between now and Dec..I bet the enviroment will be short of 35% of the population. God Bless

Not sure why anyone would say "they don't see a way out". There is a door with an exit sign over it. If someone is that unhappy, then get another job. Colgate is a great company to work for. While I agree that there have been some ups and downs over the years, overall it is a caring culture with a lot of flexiblity and opportunity for growth. The grass seems greener sometimes on the outside but I have seen people retun to Colgate that left years back. Nobody is locked in. It is all about choices. If you are not happy and you stay...then you are responsible for your own choices and unhappiness. There are plenty of opportunities out there. It does take time, however, to find another job.

If you are really honest.. Middle management is getting worse. If they like you...your life is great. If they dislike you..your life is a living hell. They will not care about your family or your well being.
