Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

Commercial Parts Business????

Advance claims they are in the commercial business but no one in upper management understands the commercial business!

Walk in to any Advance store and order 10 different Heavy Duty belts for a few different over the road trucks with say a Detroit, Cummins and maybe a Navastar engine.

Then you will see that at the most maybe a Distribution Center will have possibly 2 at most and that would be CQ DC so they would have to be ordered. Then see if those two that come in are correct for the right application because that person that looked them up may very well be an 8.50 hr. driver.

While your there order 12 cases of Rotilla oil and see how much they have in the store and the commercial pricing!

Then check with the blue and gold folks down the street and you will see who is in the commercial business!

And your wondering why all the layoffs?

"Thing is AAP gives us the tools we need as employees to stay on top of our HD inventory and any CPP ( commercial parts pro) worth their weight in salt keeps up with inventory to be the best in the market and for commercial shops to have a "go to" guy"

Yeah, ok. You are obviously a paid shill. AAP doesn't give it's employees anything beneficial or actually useful. Half of the things we stock on the shelves or can get overnight are not even listed with the apex catalog. Apex is a failure. It was obviously never tested, it was just cobbled up then dropped on us. We are the guinea pigs. I constantly find myself using resources other than what aap has provided me. But what do I know, I'm just a number.

Just be sure to check starting line for the new batch of general and district managers, if this doesn't scream turnover, I don't know what does.

Sorry, have to disagree on the "cpp worth his salt" commentator: as a DM, I had stores that tried to stock heavy duty parts for specific customers, sourced from a CQ distribution center. These stores (and I) were punished for having excessive 2nd Source inventory and even when this function was "turned on" by Customer Product Now, the majority of HD inventory was not available through the AAP DC. The supply chain at AAP was a joke. Business 101 for corporate acquisition/integration: integrate the supply chain 1st to take advantage of expanded distribution channels. AAP never did that and punished those that tried to leverage the expanded parts availability.

Sounds like another know it all liberal.. Let me explain something so you can understand. I work for AAP and I'm the commercial manager at my store. Which "Rotella" would you like to hear about? Lets start with everones go to Rotella T6 15w40 Part # 550019913 which I keep at minimum 20 cases which are replenished weekly or daily depends on how much I sell.. Now should I tell you about Rotella 10w30 or 5w40 which is full synthetic ? Thing is AAP gives us the tools we need as employees to stay on top of our HD inventory and any CPP ( commercial parts pro) worth their weight in salt keeps up with inventory to be the best in the market and for commercial shops to have a "go to" guy... Now I challenge you to come and let's get you some belts for those Detroit's and Cummings and navistars also in stock and on my shelf...Lets just hope you can provide the correct information cause if so the belt will fit like a glove, providing you know how to put it on.. If not as an ASE certified partsman I can help with that also.. As a part professional dealing with these shop owners and mechanics and the most dreaded service writer here's my issue with those individuals... If you order a large quantity is more than likely for stock and should expect it to have to be ordered as we have more customers than just one who stock the same items ... But a great service writer should never have to be in a hurry for a part because lack of preparation on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine... Plan ahead and let's think about things before you go running off you mouth about things you're not really clear on...

Typical "commercial customer" can't even correctly spell "Rotella". Must be another "Auto Care" shop.

Ask your local Blue and Gold Rep. (if company owned ) what just happened to their pay plan...

That's right.. they also just took a huge hit!!! It's the big picture we are all missing..

Gov't regulations took manufacturing out of America, saving money at Walmart put the Mom n Pop out of business, Amazon will kill retail as we know it. Every time you save .50 you put somebody out of work. We all want to raise our voice for the American worker but few will put their money where their Mouth is!!!
