I do like your comment about the infrastructure growing by design. I agree, it was NOT well planned or planned at all. I also like your metaphor. This is a classic case of growth by chaos. And let's not forget the Peter Principle. It has always thrived at Phoenix.
Are you kidding? There are many more personnel who can and will be cut.
Our infrastructure was designed? Lololol Seems like people who were desperate to show their positions had purpose threw a bunch of crap at a wall to see what clung. Kind of like now.
There are more layoffs planned and they will happen; they must. Why? Exec bonuses are based on profitability and it isn't happening with enrollment, so the next best thing is cutting personnel. Besides there is still a lot of redundancy and duplication and just plain lack of need especially at small campuses where student populations are dwindling fast. It is foolish to keep a DAA, CD, Ops Mgr, and PM or FDM at a campus with less than 150 students. And then there are all those deans at the various colleges that were hired as a result of the new COM, who are now redundant. There is more fat to cut. My guess is that things will stabilize a bit when UOP falls to 120 or 100K students. Remember our infrastructure was designed to support hundreds of thousands of students. My best guess is that enrollment will continue to decline and might stabilize around 75K. UOP is still the last resort for marginal students and military using their ed stipend.
There are redundancies at the campuses, people over 0 students and too many deans!
If there are people, there is someone to cut.
