Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

The video is old news. Heck, it was posted in 2008 on YT. I remember cracking open some book on business and greediness of capitalists and there was a blurb about how CAB got sweetheart tax deals with towns as an incentive to build their store there. So, in a nutshell, yeah our employer could shop communities and tell them they would bring jobs but they wanted X,Y and Z in return money-wise.

I said most of Cabela's, that typically means "not all".

But since you asked...having a marketing strategy that nobody follows, getting back to the "core customers" but selling hot tubs and stuffed animals, promoting people to directors that have no experience in those areas, having a marketing team that knows nothing about basic marketing and still thinking catalogs drive sales, building a building that could not be filled are just a few. Oh and 5 years of crap sales and a competitor buy out also adds to it.

Just basing it on what I have seen and experienced in the years here.

Speak for yourself. Following instructions...or making good business decisions...is not difficult for me (or the people I work with) What are you basing this on?

Well direction, following guidlines and staying on point is not something Sidney nor Cabelas is known for. Both are and were run like a high school and the "students" are just as bad. Spreading rumors, taking care of the popular kids, taking extra long lunches, talking behind backs, and doing everything possible not to learn and do your best were daily things just like a poorly ran high school. Add to that a VERY BAD principal.

Actually reading and following directions are a stretch for most at Cabelas.

I know that's not on point but wanted to try and explain to the people feeling it necessary to take time just to say what's not on point. They seem to have plenty of time so I know they will see this.

The video is talking about Hamburg, The man clearly states "a town in the Poconos" which is in Pennsylvania, NOT Nebraska. Hamburg is in the Poconos. That's what they are talking about. Getting tax breaks when you build a retail store.

In regard to the city of Sidney I doubt you could find one city in the united states which would not want to have Cabelas located in their town as they have been in the town of Sidney for the last 55 years. On the under hand I am sure you could find a lot of towns who would question the city of Sidney expenses on the golf course , the police department , the city management expenses , the schools, , the pool, the transportation department, the expenses for the lawsuits against business owners or home owners . You need to realize when you post a video implying indirectly it is for the town of Sidney. you are going to get some comments.

Some posters have very poor comprehension skills...they can't seem to follow the thread.

It's like driving by a horrific car crash. You know there is a possibility that someone lost their life, yet you just have to slow down as much as possible to get a good look. You just can't turn your head away. That is this site...It's interesting to watch what is happening to your company as the employees start attacking each other. Just can't turn away. It's like an addiction.

No one got off subject. the poster implied it was in Sidney Nebraska. I simply posted facts in regard to Cabela's in Sidney Nebraska. you can not have it both way you post basically a lie and then if someone points out you are wrong you say they are getting off the subject. Listen to the video I simply responded to the comments which was stated. The video stated the Cabela's family took money away from the city budget which was needed for other departments. (like the police department lol). the poster hate cabelas and hate Sidney and no I am not going to stand by and let you twist the truth and let you go unchallenged

And what does that have to do with the original post? I hate this discussion board, because no one stays on topic. Everything has to come back to the poor city of Sidney. Hear this, Sidney Cabela's employees: you are only 10% of the company!

What does it matter at this point? If they would have put competent and true business leaders in the proper positions, they would still be there. To me, they took no steps to advance and grow the company correctly and 5 years of crap sales and very bad decisions...they had to know that if the company continued like that, then it would be felt by the city and its residents.

So their priorities and intentions are obvious, get rich and retire and leave the city and people to adjust.

And they are still not caring about the people as they continue to regurgitate the same lies and tell everyone they will have jobs and not to panic. They just want the people to stay through the deal and they can collect. If they really cared, they would be truthful and help the employees get some education and guidance on this type of situation.

I am anxious to see some of the Directors and above move on to the real world and try and get a job and be successful at it. A rude awakening is in store and should be entertaining.

The video is absolutely true! This kind of thing happens whenever local subsidies are given to a company to get that company to move into the area (i.e., tax breaks). The video is not referencing Sidney...It's about Hamburg and that is exactly what happened with that store.

This is not only a problem with Cabela's. It happens time and time again across America. Walmart is the worst (one reason I have not stepped in a Walmart store in 20 years). We give these big companies tax breaks to get them to come to our communities with the hope of jobs. When they put other companies out of business they are effectively MOVING jobs from one business to another...NOT CREATING JOBS.

Yes Cabela's is at fault, but so are many other big businesses and the local governments that fall for this tactic.

total and complete bs this video in relationship to Sidney Nebraska. The Sidney government has not had money taken away from local government functions to give to the Cabalas family. No instead most of the times the government in Sidney Nebraska has over spent tremendously because they have Cabela's in Sidney and this policy have lead have to total nonsense government spending. The police department give me a break. this outrageous spending by our local government has got to stop now.

I watched the video and it is bs. I would like to apologize to the Cabela's family for the video on you tube . With out Cabela's in Sidney Nebraska the last 55 years this town would be just another town which suffered the movement of a large segment of population to a urban setting like other towns in the state of Nebraska. This video is bs an doesn't address the problem with Cabela's or the town of Sidney Nebraska. the readers of this site would be best to PLACE NO IMPORTANCE ON THE VIDEO
