Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

A Good Company Still !!

Been with the company 21 years and 38 in the industry, havn't seen business this bad

in quite a while.

We are the largest in the industry but still play second fiddle if you ask me. We always seem to follow when we should be leading. I do believe it's because of the leadership we have had over the last 10 to 12 years. What ever happened to " The Best Part is Our People".

Please make no mistake in thinking change is bad in my book. I just question some of the decisions made and the capital lost during the run of those changes brought to the table.

Still a good company, and I will retire running my store.

advance will rise again. We will not stay down for long, because our majority share holders have lost a tramendous amount of money in stocks since they took over so they will do what ever it takes to get that back up so they can get a full return then I look for us to either merge with oreilys or have a new CEO and hedge fund in 2 maybe 3 years. Tom Greco can not do commercial. He may have done good 15 years ago when retail ruled but he is ruining our commercial with not having enough delivery drivers to satisfy our customers. Retail puts money in our pockets but commercial pays the bills 90% of the time and we are falling behind the commercial game with only having 2 delivery drivers all day at 75% of our stores.

This! I keep trying to explain this to a lot of my younger co-workers, to no avail. I re-posted it as a separate thread in hopes more folks will see it.

I've been with the company for 15 yrs and too many managers to remember. Use to have enough people to serve the customers put up parts and keep the store looking like a clean and respectable place. We went from car guys to shoving parts across the counter and watching our SPH. I watched a lady buy a battery with her last few cents and the person watching my sales ask me if I tried to sale her corrosion washers. WTH

Best of luck to anyone that believes they will retire. Not being sarcastic but realistic. My advice is have a plan B and money in the bank. Spend sensibly and live within your means. You do not know when your name is "selected". Regardless of your top performance reviews, long hours, working through weekends, holidays and late evenings you will one day be on the "out" list. The bottom line to any public corporation is the dollar. Everyone is expendable at any level. We move on and take our experience with us. Everyone I have ever know that left or was asked to leave is happier and in many instances making more money at their new jobs.

Take it from me. A senior manager of 31+ years who was always happy to go above and beyond. My best part of the day was when I helped a customer, CAM, store manager or my peers. I was happy when I fixed their problems.

By the way, I was less than two years from retirement when they gave me the news.

Take care former AAP / CQ teammates!

Many years at Advance. "The Best Part is Our People" is long gone. Now we have a hedge fund manager telling Pepsi employees to lay off some of the most engaged and loyal people I have ever known. Cost-cutting our way to greatness. Very sad.

The company was good to me - cannot say anything negative even though I emphatize with folks affected with layoffs.

I hope our new CEO knows what he's doing hiring all these folks with no automotive experience and terminating the most loyal folks i know that possessed tons of knowledge as to what we do. I hope we aren't making decisions based on some stock holding position. Family rules.

I feel the same way, we must adjust. It takes time and is painful when this happens.
