Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Well if there was actually work to do

It would make sitting around unhappy people a little easier

I don't usually chime in on these "discussions," but this one hit close to home. I left COP because there was no work for me to do. I was a salaried COP employee in L48 at the senior level with what seemed like the making of a pretty great career. Unfortunately, the work dried up. There was no challenge, no opportunity for growth, and therefore, no opportunity for advancement. You cannot blame a person with nowhere to go for staying in a position in which there is nothing to do. I am one of the lucky few who cast a line and reeled one in. There are many, many more left in COP who would absolutely love to be earning their salary, but find no way to do that. Instead, there is busy work. Minutia in which the only certainty is that three other people will redo your work before the project comes to fruition and work groups tasked with answering a question that has an obvious answer are really the only things keeping folks busy, at least as of 10 weeks ago when I left. I understand that field folks are still busy as can be, but those in the office aren't to blame when the work dries up. That's equal measure management failure and reduced activity.

Post ID: @NR4EW5o-1tjs - you assumed it was an office worker vs blue collar, could have been anyone that goes to work (hourly or salary). Let me spell it out since it was difficult for someone of your stature to understand : do the work that you are being paid to do! Simple enough for you!

Stupid comment trying to compare blue collar service work with a salaried office employee.

NR4EW5o-hes, that is a different story "nothing being done" because no one is doing anything!

You doing nothing means you are not worth your salary. You take your car to the repair shop, three days later you go and pick it up and the mechanic charges you $2600. But all he did was open the hood and went to get coffee. He did that 12 times a day and he went to the toilet 8 times a day. He went to work and now he expects to be paid for showing up! Seem that is your case!

Do your job that you were hired to do, until that job is gone! Have some Integrity .

Integrity means following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you.
