Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Gander Mountain Denial

Gander opened a brand new store in Parker CO last Sept with a lot of fan fair, and 8 months later it is was announced that it was closing. Why were they building new sites when the company was circling the drain. Sound familiar?? I wonder what the city leaders in Chesterfield, Albuquerque, and El Paso are thinking?

The ways that these newest stores have been handled both as far as move forwards and in how they have been sold to the communities as something positive is a true indication of the lack of integrity and the lack of business sense that Tommy and his team have exhibited time and time again. Like the enlarged castle in Sidney that will never be utilized, this is a public defiance for investors. Like steps on a ladder, these points in history are mere stepping stones to why Cabela's failed and why the company had to be sold. As stated in previous posts, good companies can crumble quickly with poor leadership - this will wind up being a case study in years to come for business schools. unfortuntely for so many of us, this is not simply a case study.

They better have at least a few AP outfitters for the Albuquerque store.

Gander has never been in the same class as us, what a joke - from a customer standpoint, Gander actually has a higher status among customers lately. And using the term, "never had" is fitting - with Tommy, the cabelas name has become a joke.

Same reason Tommy built new Short Pump, VA store last year and knew damn well he was going to sell out to BPS.

He is actually closing half and using profitability matrix in the process, your example is spot on - and can be compared to a drug addict with no discipline - always chasing the initial high of. The new store and the possibility of potential euphoria- such strategies simply don't work as is witnessed by the multitude of retailers that are but memories. Cabelas and Gander are textbook examples of leadership that failed. And think of the community's that were led along a dishonest path right up to the end. Criminal is what it really is

Marcus Lemonois bought the company and is going to reopen many of the locations and open new sites.
