Halliburton's new chief executive will get a sizable pay bump as he takes the reins of the world's second-largest oil field services company.

In regulatory filings on Monday, the Houston firm said it has raised CEO Jeff Miller's annual base salary by about a third to $1.3 million. It also awarded the executive 150,000 restricted shares that vest after five years. Those shares were worth $6.8 million on Monday.

Miller, who had served as Halliburton's president since 2014, began his tenure as the company's chief executive earlier this month. He had joined the company two decades ago.

"This is a challenging market today, but our playbook remains the same.”-- Halliburton President Jeff Miller.
