What happens if we choose not to apply for the new positions? Do they have to give us a severance package? What happens if we don't get the new job we have applied for?

unfortunately, there is no severance if you're hourly. i would suggest you apply to anything that is open. if you do not get the job then you're out of luck. there are plenty of other places that you can apply to. do not worry, ei is your friend if they let you go.
