Attached Sears Auto Closing

I was informed yesterday that my Sears Auto store will be closing on May 24 and vacated no later than June 24. I put in my two weeks notice ten days ago because I have something better to do. We have been keeping quiet but some of the older FLS store heard the news through all of the connections they have made over the years. I only have two days left and I don't much care to deal with any of it because I have already been through a corporate merger and a couple of store closings as well as one golf course closing. I figured that by me pre-emptively leaving I would at least be protecting our young CSA for a while. Not the case. The CSA will be terminated tomorrow morning. We'll see how that goes.

The number one question everyone has is when the FLS store will be closing. As luck would have it, the FLS manager is on vacation in Vegas for 11 days.(hmmmm) The way things went down over the last 30 hours is that I was never informed by any DM or copied on anything and I am the assistant manager. That has pretty much always been that way with Auto. I would imagine that FLS is the same way because it wouldn't make sense to give that information to the ASM while the SM is out. The attached FLS store numbers are horrific.

Does anyone have any insight into an attached Auto Center closing but not the FLS? Us leaving is going to make a bad situation worse for those few folks still left in FLS. The warranty situation alone is going to drive FLS nuts. The 80 year old geezer with his 2005 Lincoln Town Car isn't going to be able to get the free tire rotation he paid for. The nearest AC to us is about a two hour drive. We're Sorry.

My Chrysler is soon due for new tires. I was debating on including rotation and balancing with the purchase, but I was thinking about the situation with Sears and the auto centers. I mean, the cost isn't a whole lot, but it was something that crossed my mind. I don't like paying for something I may not be able to use.

The problems (or disasters) with this company aside, I still want to support it as much as I reasonably can, so I at least I will get the tires with installation from Sears Auto. When my car approaches the five-year mark, I will get a battery with installation. The only thing I don't have done are oil changes, since those are free from my dealership for three years, but I will when that expires.

I want Sears to thrive because I care about everyone that works for the company. I've been here for five years as a lead on the FLS side. You guys (and gals) at Sears Auto do great work.

OP here. We don't sell PA's as you call them very often. The warranty comes with the work performed. This is why we are different than FLS. We actually fix what is broken. These are not appliances. I have had warranty claims on my own vehicles for a couple of things and it is because of the (eddie) AutoZone parts we must use have failed. These are mileage/time/ manufacturer based warranties. Tire warranties, alignment warranties, brake warranties and the tire warranties. No one in full line sells the sorts of warranties we do.

That is why auto is so different than FLS. If your auto center is closing and your FLS isn't: Things are about to get a whole lot worse for you. Sears "Members" don't realize that Sears Auto and Sears are not the same company. No provisions have been made to make an easy transition either.

I know of eight auto centers that are to be closed of the 50. We were number three on that list. The others have not been announced yet. Our numbers were way better than the attached FLS. I have seen provisions already made for public announcements. If your AC closes it is not looking good for the FLS associated with it. No one knows for sure yet. Two Days.

And the warranty is more important than ever as the product quality has dramatically dropped.

Thats why a lot of people are afraid of shopping at Sears. When it comes to PA they bring them up and a lot of customers bring up well what happens if you are going out of business? They go oh your still covered probably be covered for a limited of time because when the company goes under they are going to have a struggle looking around. I think for your area its going to be bad people that bought life time services (like tire rotation etc) are going to be burned. Whats the correct thing to do? I would say reimbursed the customers that ask for those services, but that aint going to happen.
