After many years of service they fired me and made up the worst excuse in the world as to why so they didn't have to pay me a severance package. I had to actually call HR to hear their reason because the fake (in the closet) manager DK told me he could not tell me why it was my last day. This is the same "manager" that didn’t know my schedule after months of being on his team. My conversations with HR went in circles. When I contradicted their reason for terminating me with example, the rep literally gave me a different one. This went on for a few minutes with random reasons that made it obvious she didn't know our roles and what it consists of. Because they didn’t classify it a layoff now there are unemployment issues. I used to see these comments and think people weren't doing what they were supposed to and were just mad at UOP for firing them. Now I know otherwise. If you are still there be very careful there is no limit to how low they will go.

To the upper 1% on here, what we are trying to say is $60k, 5 weeks vacay, never having to work OT, and never taking our work hime with us is a pretty good gig. The amount of money one makes does not reflect ones happiness or ability. Did yiu see anyone bragging about $60k? No. Yes, we can make more money elsewhere. Yes, I have turned thise jobs down as well. Good for you for making over 6 figures. Happy for you. Hope you do something worthwhile with all that cash, because from where I stand, you sound like a rich jerk.
Management was trying to find reasons to give Enrollment Advisor's a discussion memo and a written warning and fire them a year ago ! I was fired and I was the top producer on my team. Iwas with them a long time ! They were putting stupid sh__ in your one on one's and it was very obvious to me...they were told to do this ! So they don't have to give you a severance pkge.....share your thoughts? Watch out everyone ! Don't acknowledge these in your Cweb,etc at all ! It is pathetic !

Kindergarten 1st year $62,069 average after 6 years $81,468
Elementary 1st year $65,969 average after 6 years $86,885
the point here is- you're not doing as well as you think you are compared to the rest of the country,,sorry..
by the way, I earn $265k per year---so you need to understand that 60k is just entry level salary where I sit.
yes, 85k for k-teacher, my wife and yes, we are in v.high end, v. upscale, highly educated east coast public school district-- not the flukily district you have in south, mid and AZ..sorry- but so true, 60k is what we pay K-mart workers...

85k as a teacher? What are you smoking? Who here has EVER HEARD of a teacher making that kind of money unless they work in a HIGH END school district...possibly a high end private school. Unfortunately, teachers are notorioisly underpaid. I'd also be willing to bet the cost of living is much higher there too. Don't get me wrong, teachers should make more money than anyone, but before spouting off a random statement, provide some random statement. Furthermore, whats whats wromg with 60k and 5 weeks vacay? That's above average, and I only work 40 hours, no OT, and I never take my work home. Honestly, you soumd like someone who's upset with their position in life. Kinda sad if you ask me.

As at-will employees we can be let go at at any time for any reason - or no reason. The exception is that the company cannot violate federal employment law and let you go for an illegal reason (age, religion, etc.). Severance is never required, even when it was granted to other employees. Without knowing details, I would speculate that the OP might have been paid more than most in his/her group doing similar work and was let go to reduce cost. HR and the manager handled it poorly, but the result is the same. Look for this to happen with increased frequency unless enrollment and retention improve soon. Watch your back, and do what is right for you and your family.

$66K with 5 weeks vacay is plenty enough for me, because I get to work from home. I love the flexibility and not having to fight traffic or deal with people.

Hey anon, you're bragging about a lousy $60k? The kindergarten teachers in my district make $85k and get summers off and 4 weeks break throughout school year and a hefty pension after 5 years on the job.. I wouldn't brag about a lousy $60k and a few weeks off for 'bad' behavior..bunch of losers working at uopx...
$60k and 5 weeks vacay is totally worth it, even if you are a bit miserable. No one can touch 5 weeks. Then again, I work to live, and not the other way around.

They actually did worse with the faculty layoff because they artificially lowered the annual reviews so that a large percentage were ranked at proficient or lower when they had been advanced or even role model the years before. Then they used those reviews to justify who was chosen for the layoff.
