DCS = Data Center Solutions. Formerly DCS Business Unit (DCSBU). Formerly Cloud Infrastructure Business Unit (CIBU).
I spent some time working in DCSBU/DCS/CIBU but left earlier this year (my choice). DCS handled HGST Active Archive mostly, plus some other 'Enterprise-class' storage systems. Changing department names in email sigs almost justified a recurrent task entry in Outlook calendar.

What's DCS?
In our teams, no manager was hit. The managers to employee ratio is very low, i.e. very few employees per manager. Yet rather than increase the number of employees per manager, the managers continue to remain. Status collectors will always ask status - the ones who solved real problems were more easily let go off.
entire PM and PMM team in DCS wiped out. I saw so many happy faces in those team, I am sure they will all find great jobs in EMC/HP/Google/AWS
I don't want to give exact figures out my group size but it was <=10. So fairly small.
Layoffs every 6 months is the new norm. I think everyone should have up to date resumes and be applying to other jobs.

I mean eventually everyone working on HDDs will have to transfer to SSDs or get laid off, but it's going to be a slow trickle over the next decade or so.
But yeah, I was the one who posted about my group being hit hard. They are definitely hitting people who have had bad performance really hard. All the weak links are getting removed I guess.
