Looking to get the heck out of my store this spring. Not sure where to go. Who hires ex-Cabelas employees? I don't want another retail job. Had it up to here dealing with customers and how much they act like children.

Yes, there is life after Cabela's. I worked at corporate for many years. One month ago they walked me out the door. I was fortunate to find employment locally. Not quite as much money that I previously had, but so far no drama, no fear of my job being on the line. I can continue to provide for my family. My wife still works for Cabela's, the stress is weighing on her significantly. The sooner she can find something else, the better off our family will be. My opinion, get out while you can. Find a location on a map where you want to land and GO!
My only regret is wasting so much time and energy on this company. Really wish I never put my application in there to begin with. WORST JOB EVER!!!! I finally found a job that I love with much better pay. The grass is definitely greener on the other side.
not on,y does that go for cabelas but Sidney as well, I am glad in am out of there,
Better working environment better pay, along with the lack of high school drama which is so prevalent in both corp as well ad the community,
Have some friends I left behind miss them terribly and I hope they will be able to escape the storm that is about to hit the area.
No regrets I'm out.
Work less hours,
Earn lots more money,
Get rewarded with bigger bonuses,
Work with employees that conduct themselves as professionals.
Have supervisors that value their employees.
And yes we also give our hourly employees several bonuses and increases yearly.
Along with lots of other incentives.
The last post is spot on - I am out and the only regret is why I waited so long. I believed in cabelas and gave it all I had yet was dumped and it is the best thing that could have happened. I always thought we had an awesome, respected company- wrong, I am embarrassed now to even admit I worked there. - the viewpoint of the customers, 90% who are former, is complete disdain. The pay, the way the executive team has ruined an incredible company, the way they treat their employees - people know and despise the company on the. Selection, the terrible stores, poor quality- the list goes on - wow. And now when I talk to vendors, they are honest in how screwed up Cabelas has become - its laughable.... and now I laugh with them, thinking of all the incompetence that tommy fostered. Yes, there is life after tommybelas ... a much better life, don't wait. Let those who want to go down with the ship, go. It is not a potential, it will happen. When customers have lost the allure and the trust in a great brand and vendors laugh at The insanity, it's over.
Here is what you will experience once you make the decision to move
-
Cabelas has none of the clout that it did pre-Tommy days
-
actually it is laughed about in the industry by both customers and vendors
-
no place is perfect yet you will be amazed at the positive attitude within organizations beyond Sidney
-
advancement and the ability to grow will be surprising coming from the stagnant cabelas atmosphere
When people learn you use to work for cabelas they will mention all of the problems
I pulled the plug on my Cabela's career in November and haven't looked back. It's not worth the stress and drama. Just lock the doors and let everyone move on with their lives.

How a person would be able to adjust to not working at Cabela's probably depends in large part to the length of service and age of the employee. A younger worker with a short period of employment would have a much easier time adjusting to new employment then a employee with a long period of employment and a older worker. This is one reason severance pay is usually based on how long a person has worked for the company. I myself would advise you not to quit until you find another job.
I wonder sometimes if bass pro write these responses. The truth is everyone's situation is different. More then likely if you are a short term younger employee you will have a much easier time adjusting to a new position or new career or even getting hired then if you are an older long term employee . My question to the person who posted the question wouldn't it be better for you to be looking for a different position while you are employed then waiting until you quit. You may want to wait until you find another job before you quit.
Yes there is life after Cabela's. I was a long time employee that worked in many different departments/areas. Took those experiences elsewhere and I'm working for a company that has nothing to do with the outdoor industry, but I'm able to apply my skills from Cabela's to my current position.
Start with a positive can do attitude and it will be 100% better once out
Good luck.
you will be fine, there are opportunities out there.
Customers always act like children, and dealing with it is 2/3 of your job. Cannot avoid it, no matter where you go, customers are always a pain, embrace it.
I've been out for a while, and have friends that have recently been let go, and life is WAY better once you get out of the drama and everyday fear. Trust me.
