Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

??what would you say to them??? or some advice

I see all the hate on here and all the "good riddens" and all the "those s---ers are still there".

How about a few thoughts of what you would do to change things? what would you say to these uppers? where does the change need to happen?

All you haters that left or were laid off, But if you are happy elsewhere, what works there? lay some knowledge of what works out there.

Look... unless you left to be a consultant or start your own company, you are in the same rat race we are all in, at any company of this sort.

any thoughts would be appreciated all the trolling, just go away.

you dont even need to name any names or dept, what would help??

I'll start it with, how about less people from companies that have nothing to do with I.D or Product design.

Or how about realizing that we don't know how to make money from APPS?

  1. No using phones in meetings.

  2. Be on time to all meetings. If you are late, apologize to the room. Every. Single. Time.

  3. Find something genuine to appreciate in each of your direct reports ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

  4. Say "thank you" to a cross-functional team member every. single. day.

  5. Set aside time every week to think about the people who work for you—know their names and what projects they work on. Think about ways to make them look forward to coming into work.

100% agree with the culture comment. It is a poisonous, dog-eat-dog culture where failure is not an option. With the axe constantly swinging everyone from SVP down is hunkering in their cubes performing the status quo. Questioning or challenging labels you as a "poor Team player." Easier to just say "yes Master/ no Master" to the constantly revolving leasdership. Fear of failure leads to stagnation and poor innovation. And yes, APPS are not the answer!

HR needs overhaul. NYC has 1 who is never there. 2 days a week is BS. get rid of her - she wants to leave anyway.

Here's the key: CULTURE (which beats Strategy every day). Mattel has a culture where, starting with the Senior Management Team, instead of helping each other, they are just out to eliminate each other for their shot at he rotating CEO/CMO roles. They don't hold each other accountable, they just work behind the scenes to make up accusations to eliminate them.

At other companies, the Management Team works together (albeit there are always office politics) towards the goals of company and hold each other accountable.

Looking forward to see some responses. Just keep it kosher, names and personal insults not allowed here.
