Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

HURRY UP BPS MERGER

The only hope for CAB is for BPS take over. BPS knows how to operate lean. They won't be allowing the pissing away money that our SR. so called leadership has allowed. Why did CAB allow almost 100 people to go to SHOT Show? How much did CAB spend on that? How many people could have kept their jobs? Am curious how many BPS people were there, if any.

Its not just Tommy who needs to get a boot in their A--!!

Merchandising and Marketing are the worse offenders at wasting money. Hope they shape up soon or all ship out to Springfield.

Cabela's should sponsor a NASCAR team. It would be a good investment since the fans are our customers, especially in Texas and the southeast.

Be careful what you wish for. Life at BP is not that great. We cut costs on everything so we can piss away money on Nascar.

Exact opposite of D--k and Jim Cabala. Tommy mentality and that is why Cabelas is being sold

Yep bragger has probably been to many SHOT shows and sky diving. Doesn't care about others who lost jobs because of poor management.

To upper management bragger. I bet you have a trophy wife also , fancy house and all the trimmings. While the layoff employees are wondering how they are going to pay bills and support their families.

Wonderful attitude and outlook. One suggestion- read up the public company as an institution so you better understand who you really working for and simply be careful and aware of the business - there are a ton of people who have given like service to Cabelas over the years - you are far from alone - yet the stockholder demands will truly dictate how the business reacts and grows or retracts. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with D--k Cabela - you really need truly passionate leaders at the top. That is not present right now

My status is I get respect for the job I have done over the years. My job performance has sent standards which will be hard to ever be surpassed in the future. I have pride in my job and I like many of my co workers put our life's on the line for Cabela's a year ago. However in the worth to the company I like many others fall in the category individually Cabela's could get my just fine without me. However as a group of employees like myself and those like me the company probably would not have lasted for 6 months. I have pride in my myself , Cabela's , the town of Sidney , and the state of Nebraska and together we are going to make the needed adjustments to make Cabela's the top outfitter in the united states. Elliot was a firm who was interested in one thing turning a short term profit on stocks and Elliot didn't care about the stockholders the employees the company the customers or the town of Sidney. THIS is Cabela's however and D--k Cabela said his secret to suggest in business was you treat your customers and employees right and everything else will far into place . I really think the bass pro fans or laid off ex workers on this site are in for a surprise who think the stockholder of Cabela's think like Elliot .

If you didn't listen to the latest conference call, you should. Cabela's sales are way, way off. There are market forces at work that are hurting the company's competitiveness or customers are going elsewhere to buy.. This is not something that Cabela's is going to overcome with a new CEO. There's a lot of pain ahead for CAB (whether the merger goes through or not). Tommy has only one focus get the merger done or he knows he's "out." He doesn't care about cost cutting...if there's a new CEO or Johhny Morris...he will cut until there's little Cabela's left. Its the only thing to do when you can't make your sales.

I would like to address the statement earlier in regard to my background. A. a long time Cabela's employee for almost thirty years. B. long time Sidney resident c. home owner with a young son and a beautiful girl c. NEVER TAKEN ANY KIND OF DRUGS. D. I would like to think I have reached legendary statues at work. E. I sincerely believe without a doubt Cabela's is the top outdoor outfitter in the united states. I refer to you as mr bass pro. I do not know anything about you except. A. you are a big bass pro fan B. you hate Cabela's and the town of Sidney C. you get really upset when someone suggest Cabela's will be able to make it without the buy out from bass pro. What is your background?. Were your fired from Cabela's? ARE you working for bass pro now to discredit Cabela's ?

Sending 100 people to the SHOT show isn't all that much different from the Merchandising & Marketing teams having regular "team building" activities like indoor sky diving, spa days, $1,000 bar tabs at Lake McConaughey, fishing & hunting trips, the list goes on, and on, and on, and on.....all on the Company dollar.

Mr all caps moron. You are missing the point of this thread. CAB pisses away money then great people are let go. Do a grammar and spell check on your original rant. You are either a total idiot or on meth. YOU are probably both.

I am just reading this so have no skin in the game as far as this conversation. One element that is missing in this and many previous conversations centers around the respect and the passion that a customer for the Cabelas brand, name and locations. It is easy to say, we can build this into something big in a year if bass Pro drops out. The one reality that the Cabelas brand is facing is the loss of respect as a brand and as important, as a brand ambassador for the customer. To be honest, we are looked upon as a joke now, seriously. The stores are terrible, Tommy and his crew have decimated the ranks of anyone who really lives the life, the greed that has been public ally shared is sickening and the vendors have lost respect for us. What built the company - awesome customer service, users entrenched in the company at every level and great product. Cabelas was there no matter where a customer was, providing great gear and best in the business customer service. Trust. None of that is left. We lost the edge shortly after Tommy arrived.

I agree that we sent too many people to the shot show in Vegas. The room I received was $100/night (you can imagine what type of room I was in) - I walked to the convention center (yes, it was a 45 minute walk) - I didn't need to be there.. The only thing I did was network for a position for a new job - thank you...I have a job offer....bye bye Sidney!

Makes no sense to you. You come here every day Cabela's is terrible the town of Sidney is terrible. the store is terrible. Bass pro is wonderful . You do not like the truth. You are a liar and out to do one thing try to force the sell of Cabela's at a bargain price to bass pro. You are a liar and a fraud. You have one purpose to discredit Cabela's. I stated the truth 100 percent. However it wasn't bass pro promotion so you say it makes no sense

100 people at Shot Show. Why? What a time and money waste. The buyers should be there and that is it and they should only be looking for new. All current company's should have met with merchandising teams prior. This is why Cabelas is in trouble. It will take years to get back on track. The customers are sick of hearing about the drama, the poor product quality and the terrible stores. Cabelas will fail quickly if bp does not complete the deal. No if, and or buts about it. At the shot show, the talk was about Cabelas and how Tommy has fxxxxxx it all up - it is a standing joke amongst vendors. Good luck. The circus has not gone unnoticed ad passionate customers want to support passionate companies.

I TOTALLY AND DISAGREE COMPLETLEY 100 PERCENT. I HAVE NO DOUBT IF THE MERGER DOES NOT GO THRU CABELAS WILL PROBABLY NEED TO MAKES SOME CHANGES IN PLANNING IN THE FUTURE AND SOME NEED PERHAP IN TOP MANAGEMENT. I THINK CABELAS AS THEY ALWAY HAD IN ANY TOP MANAGERMENT MOVE WILL HAVE FEELINGS FOR THE THOSE INVOLVE AND ALLOW A FAIR SEVERANCE OR A CHANGE IN THE TITLE. HOWEVER IF THE MERGER DOES NOT GO THRU I SEE CABELAS CHANGING THEIR APPORACH AND I SEE A SITUTATION OF PERHAP BRINGING IN A WELL KNOWN FIGURE IN TOP MANAGEMENT WHO WILL CLAUSE EXCITEMENT IN THE COMPANY ,AND THE STOCK MARKET , WITHIN IN YEAR THE COMPANY STOCKS AND PROFITS WILL BE BACK TO A VERY RESPECTFUL AMOUNT. YES THE DAYS OF A GROW SPEND GROW SPEND GROW SPEND AT CABELAS ARE PROBABLY OVER. ALSO I AM HOPING THE SILLY NONSENSE POLICIES OF THE CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO BE OVER TO SAVE THIS TOWN PARTICULLARY OUR HOME OWNERS

Based on the fact the quite a few well known Small Arms Manufacturers are sponsoring this show, I call this absurdity: shooting himself in the foot. And yes, if it is true that a considerable size of wanna be managers/real front line employees were or attending this show despite the lack of a healthy cash flow, then one has to ask a simple question, are all the marbles of the senior management all there and accounted for?
