Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

city manager conducted his comedy act at Appleby's the other day called the State of Sidney. I would give his comedy act a A+

Everyday you pick up the paper you read about suicides attempted murders, homes with no buyers, people starving, business going out of business. bankruptcies , young families in financial ruins, older families in financial ruins , due to the economic downturn in Sidney Nebraska. The Sidney city council have ignored the Cabela's situation entirely . However this week our city manager conducted a comedy act at Appleby's and lighten up the situation with some humor . The city manager stated plans to make an ordinance that would require sign improvement.

In April, each city staff member will be designated six blocks of Sidney to inspect. Property owners will then be notified of any violations. SO NICE TO GET A LITTLE RELIEF FROM SIDNEY REAL PROBLEMS IN A COMEDY WAY FOR FOCUSING FOR A MINUTE ON THINGS WHICH DOES NOT MATTER.

You all seem very knowledgeable about city government. There is an open seat on the council. Perhaps you should apply and see what great things you can accomplish. Maybe we would have a few less complainers on this site. It would help Sidney more if you spent your time and energy promoting a positive image of Sidney instead of all this negativity.

Spending by the city council will change very soon. There's a storm coming...you can ignore it or prepare for it. The City has decided to do the former.

I do not believe the council has spent one minute of time discussing the horrible economic conditions in Sidney. I heard a ex council men saying how great things were. The fact is the council portray a situation where there is no need to cut spending and no need to go without. The opposite is true the city of Sidney is going to have to do like the residents and begin to cut their spending big time.

Suicides....attempted murders??? Let's not exaggerate. There was one recent murder-suicide in Sidney, which was very sad and tragic, but it was not connected to Cabela's at all.

It is a very sad situation and it is quickly turning into a very desperate situation for those of of us here in whats left of our community.

I am sorry to say that fixing up a few signs and removing a some old signs as well as picking up the trash is not going to help our community. Other than possible providing a sense of accomplishment and comfort to our elected and appointed officials.

All this in preparation for the big eclipse and for the hoards of potential buyers and business owners that are going to come to our community.

All that is going to happen is this will a stop on the way for fuel and a cold drink. Nothing more nothing less. This is nothing more than a rest stop for most now.

Our current city manager as well as his predecessor along with the city council have had their collective heads in the green sand for a quite a while.

What we are seeing here is basically closing the gate after the cattle have already run off

It will be up to those of us left here to pick up the pieces from the fallout of the economic and social destruction of our community and attempt to rebuild.

I am not pointing the finger of blame at any one official or member of our community. We are all in this mess together.

I hope and pray that we will survive as a community an rebuild and grow in the future.

Add the new plan for snow removal . What works in Denver will not work here. I worry about my family's financial future everyday. The city needs to reduce spending money.
