Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Bright Minds? Strong Work Ethic?

To make Director level at Coca Cola, Nike, UA, Caterpillar, Home Depot etc. etc. an MBA is typically required. There isn't one Director at Cabellas with an MBA ... can that be right? Your VP team is also comically undereducated. Nobody's even heard of your EVPs. Who are these clowns? From what I understand the work ethic is also a complete joke out there in the prairie. After this deal falls apart it would behoove you people not to pay top dolllar for the brightest business minds on the planet. And yes, they will move to Sydney to work for that iconic brand and be in the most exciting industry in the world. Get with the times out there and stop promoting the average ... guys who would have a hard time making middle management anywhere but Sydney. Time to start respecting the hard work and dedication it takes to get educated. And for god sakes, everyone get to work out there ... the 40 hour work week is 1980's. This deal will fall apart, and when it does, you'd better get a clue.

Absolutely it really can't be half way. The passion needs to be there along with respect for what brought this company to the table. Having a vegetarian buyer buying meat snacks - come on. Non outdoorsmen making decisions on product for enthusiasts- get back to the basics and clean out the top - now. Get the best in there

Why can't we have both? Aren't there MBA's out there from the best learning institutions in the world that love to hunt and fish? If the deal falls apart lets go get em and crush it for our custmers and our shareholders. We have to make some trades here and pick up some strong draft picks. Time to clean house on top. I also understand there are a lot of great guys near the top at CAB who are poised to lead. I just hope their vision is very different from the current EVP team.

The one key attribute that is critical in a business that sells to lifestyle centered individuals is a deep passion for the specific lifestyle. MBA's have a place within the organization yet such is not critical in every area. In cabelas world, an MBA who does not pursue an outdoor interest that is a part of Cabelas focus can hardly pick great gear via his or her MBA. Users are critical and the company must be infused with them such that we never forget what brought us to the table

I personally know and report to one that has an MBA, as does our VP. In addition, I'll have you know that the majority of Nike, Coke and others are very much set up the same as Cabela's. This statement is probably written by someone who has been passed over several times for a position (and doesn't have an MBA). Get a life.

Proofreading is typically done at the associate degree level, but solid work.

I've always understood that bright minds work less than 40 hours. It's just that they are that much more efficient then others. While MBA has some credibility, I wouldn't put those with a MBA on a pedestal.

There's only one "L" in Cabela, friend. Take your trolling somewhere else.
