Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Boeing Executives Screw it up Again!

Boeing is not known for hiring the brightest leaders and it sure showed as result of this latest round of layoffs. Boeing's debacle came to fruition I'm part due to Obama's lack of Defense Spending and Boeing leaders who offloaded 80% of the 787 Build process to outside suppliers. This decision was put in place due to chief idiot Harry Stonecipher who after screwing up McDonald Douglas royally was allowed to do it to Boeing. John McDonald who is part of the Boeing Board endorsed this poison pill for Boeing. and now with all of the Supplier overruns and the Market Analyst breathing down Boeing's throat they have begun to layoff their experience. It a coincidence that the layer off workers are 61.5 and older are the ones with the experience and being laid off.

Just have to ask, what is the credibility of someone who spells "McDonnell" as "McDonald"?

Do your research, information is available.

Right now this is looking to be another BCA layoff, which BCA has not declared a surplus...yet warns were put out (media), NOT posted on the WA WARN site...odd. A Boeing spokesman to media (small coverage) confirmed warns on 17th, But didn't disclose the numbers or formal surplus for BCA? Many speculate surplus was hinted with the start of engineering layoffs in January.

Look at the employment data ~1600 jobs from end of last year to end of Feb were not filled, terminated or retired. ~1880 were post via media for VLO (numbers vary IF they take the exit dates given). So ~3100+111 (on this site for warns) = ~3200 jobs gone to maybe match the 9% (media) reduction last year. If so to reduce the head Count to meet that theoretical 9% like last year that's ~3000 more jobs BCA worldwide. Again depends what the % is that corporate wants.

So with SC denying the union...how convenient there is a recent article that they are not getting hit??? Time will tell if they will match Everett in rate and quality. Also will see, if they fall into the federal WARN act on reporting layoffs.

On redeployments. Check your sources, they will need to redeploy for 1) VLO's 2) WARNS 3) Retirement on their terms (here's my badge, see ya) 4) Terminated for ethics attendance etc that many can see. 5) people just leaving 6) other ways to leave note stated.

We all know if union it's seniority based. IF you have "special skills" you could be saved. Like in 2013.

I agree like clockwork on March 17 WARN. If you're at those programs. You should have a clue why some announced and others did not.

We are slated for WARNS, how deep depends on the big picture with tanker, 777x and 737 for head count. Just because you get a WARN doesn't mean you'll get laid off. Example 2013. Ask around you will hear the stories.

If laid off, you may be tasked to train your replacement. That is real hard training someone that will take over your job. Same for the person filling your shoes. Remember unions are seniority based. Replacements like in 2013 had to travel farther just to keep a job. Many on my line were reluctant to train them. Others understood and didn't want to burn bridges or their crew and ensured the replacements were up to par.

Make sure (if union) to stay in good standing. Talk to a steward or call your union hall. Make sure you fill out your recall Cat A right form. Get your sign in information to login to your union Web page to keep current. Go to or call the union hall to see where you fall on the recall list. If you choose to ride the Boeing roller coaster, again. Many did not come back from 2013, yet here we are again with WARNS.

Functional test...rumors right now, are with safe dates. You can get the information, talk to people. Some information is accurate & some way off. You need to decipher what is true. There are too many variables that could affect any job code. People with buyback rights and people retained are the biggest concern. I wouldn't worry until they finally announce the surplus and the number for each job code, which last one was posted on the union site. There are ~20 people still eclassed (do your research to find that), when they move back then the head count tally will come down the chain.

Just my observation.

Your best bet is to find a 2nd or 3rd level who will talk.

I guarantee our union knows numbers.

This is interesting though, because as far as the company as a whole declaring surplus, I have not heard. I only heard when individual programs declared a surplus. Then they started they redeployments, based on their management directed 'banding process'. Once the company wide surplus was declared, redeployment should had been on a seniority base.

Rumors...I heard mechanics hired after 2011 and electricians hired after 2012. 30% of each position. I haven't personally heard anything about other positions.

-Soon to be laid off electrician

Like clockwork WARN notices went out today. (3/17/17) Sounds like first round will hit most hired back to 2014, those prior are safe for now.
