Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Ugly Week Ahead

Next week will see more adjustments being made to "headcount" across the campuses.

Out of one side of their mouth they tell us about "job of choice" while our of the other side they're constantly harping on "headcount." They don't care about real people... only that there's too many full chairs.

It is an ugly process to take away someone's livelihood. The way that management laid off Full-Time Faculty was atrocious. Many of upper management took the day off because they did not want to be a part of the backlash. It delights me that those upper echelon are now losing their jobs. Did they think they would be safe with two companies buying us out? The whole university has been management top heavy for quite some time. I have been with this university for 13 years. I feel that this whole process was terrible for the FTF's. I do not feel sorry for upper management. They knew this was coming all along. I only wish that I had more than 7 days notice that I would be losing my job.

I said this to everyone that was so happy that they would keep their jobs after the sale, no one's job is safe. Any struggling company that gets bought out will downsize the workforce within the first 90 days. Mid management is being used to help with the termination of the lower level employees then once that mission is done the middle management will be whittled down.

International is where all the unregulated money making universities reside. Professional development is next. Then UoPX will be scaled down to very specific degrees and enrollment of about 30-50 thousand. This is a good time to say good bye to all my friends over the years. Bye

Yes, it is a surprise when experienced and educated persons are let go and executives are kept to drain the budget. It also surprises me how the Deans are repeating to stay positive and don't get upset when clearly their jobs aren't on the line. My director will talk to me on Tuesday 3-14-. I believe this is when everyone will get their talk about being laid-off. Talks about these layoffs have been going on for at least a year. Wednesday 3-15, 2017 another big announcement will follow your talk on Tuesday. This is when the final speech will be done. I also hear that those laid-off will get an opportunity to apply for the new positions. Frustrated.

middle management usually assists with the layoffs of workers. Once this is complete (for now), then middle management generally gets axed followed by their managers...typical layoff strategy. If there is a downsizing next week as mentioned, then how can you possibly be surprised?

When are they going to stop laying off the little people and start gutting the middle management?
