West was bought years ago on a whim by Todd Nelson. This was before the dot com world exploded. Online was enrolled less than 200 students. Todd bought it so UOP wouldn't have any competition in Phoenix.

And now those programs are gone, with a heavy heart let's just move. Nothing to see here except pro development and a slimmer UoPx.
From the bit of research Ive done (keep in mind Apollo bought West before I started here), I hear the purchase was for AA programs we didnt/couldnt offer. O could be completely wrong though.
I agree, but why did Apollo edu but a university that had similar programs or why did Apollo buy a university for the programs? Could Apollo not develop the programs on their own? Just more wacky Apollo decisions
It's bot necessarily eunning it into the ground. Think of it from a business standpoint. UoP buys West for programs that are essentially phased out. Both West and UOP are running similar programs. Why have two colleges compete when all the money can be used to improve the one who is more established and makes more money. Its basically busines 101. The new owners want to bring the college back in the black in a big way. Deleting uneccessary expenses is part of that.
But Apollo ed ran West for years. Bought a good school and ran it into the ground. End of story
Just an FYI, Apollo didn't invent WIU. It was purchased years ago for its programs.
Not surprised, just another failed Apollo Education idea. I cannot wait for the new direction at UoPX. It should be a thriller like West. Chee Haw.
no one knew that West even existed beyond city of Phoenix- it had no differentiator other than cheap, and poor quality..so why surprised????
It simply came down to a business decision (albeit very simple). The owners looked at West's bottom line and they just weren't turning a profit, Operational changes to student interactions and reduction in tuition fees were very bad business decisions that were unsupported with any real research. President and VP of Operations were really the downfall of this once great school. It's a sad day.
Words!!!!!! Anyway you look at it somebody will not be working soon. Words, tell that to the ex employee looking for a job. Words!!!! What kind of English usage maniac are you???
You idiots this is worded completely incorrectly. There is a difference between being shot down and making the decision to close a business. You should probably think how your words Will be received before you post your message.
I read that email too. I wonder if it had to do with gainful employment or financial issues or both?
What??? How can I change lives without a university??
