Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

watching the mattel stock plummet just a little more each day is unnerving.

i wish the a-holes making the decisions would get fired already.

To the last poster, better yet, finally all the do nothing design sycophant managers to SVP's can be fired & the entire Tower building can be emptied/sold. A win, win for Hasbro going forward.

Massive synergy benefits. Need half the staff. Thats why. No need to worry about Boston.

Whaaat?!? To the last poster: do you seriously think a Hasbro would take on the sinking ship that is Mat-hell? Especially when they are doing so well and we are floundering. What would a move to Boston be like?

The UBS report paints a valid story for a MAT-Hasbro tie-up. It's the only option for MAT. With a portfolio of worn brands, weak leadership and bloated company what is the alternative? I'm sure the Board of Directors see it as the best option for shareholders.

To the last poster, bravo and stop on...I have been with this company for nearly thirty years and have witnessed the endless array of lack luster results made with each and every round of new leadership!

It has gone on for far to long!

Margo, it is time to do what is needed to stop this endless cycle of change, along with unfulfilled results.

The water at the bottom of this swamp is clear, it's the top that needs skimming...badly!

An accurate sitrep at http://www.investopedia.com/news/can-mattel-catch-hasbro/

Margo, all eyes are upon you we're all waiting breathlessly for you to do something brilliant in your SECOND 30 days in office. If it's not obvious to you, you have some serious housecleaning up top. Farr & d---son for starters, and don't be shy. Then carve up that dead weight known as the "Bored of Directors" which contributes nothing yet is steadily draining our coffers. Seriously, what did Chris Sinclair bring to the party for a year?

We are WAY too conservative for a company that will live die by innovation. Protecting Barbie at all costs, yet that business continues to steadily decline. Protecting the dividend at all costs, yet the stock price is pathetic. CUT THE DIVIDEND! Yes the stock will fall for a while, but you need to reinvest that dividend money in R&D and real innovation. Once people see the changes, the stock will recover. It's time to get radical. Often, a surgeon has to cut in order to save.

Innovation, next level, phygital, disruptive, revolution: what do these words all have in common? They have been absent from Mattel for years, reduced to hollow buzzwords heard at every d---son rally. Every toy we make is a sad, cheap, cost-cut shell what may have originally been a good idea. But our process and our culture make it difficult if not impossible for any product of real value to run the gauntlet of manufacturing and cost reduction. I've only been here for five years yet I've noticed the steady decline and disconnect. Our brands operate in isolated, insulated silos. Directors and VPs only care about their turf and power and taking the easy risk-free route. There is NO reason to challenge or buck the system to achieve anything other than our usual mediocre results. You need to empower your people at ALL levels to encourage creative risk-taking. You need to change the pervasive "fear of failure" culture that shackles and paralyzes us. As your Google pal Astro Teller says, we should be encouraged to "fail often and early". You have SO MANY smart and capable people being forced into submission by these management bullies. Do annual 360s on EVERY person in management, just like TRACS. If they don't show steady improvement, can them! How can Mattel possibly lead when handicapped by poor leadership?

We're hoping, watching and waiting.

There are advocates now at work to dismantle the board of directors and then get a new management team. Just wait and see this unfold.

The board of directors has to demand it. They have been invisible, asleep and confused about the company for years. No accountability. Time to make a contribution to grow the business.

But how can she see through it? She has no expertise in this industry. How can she really know who is blowing smoke and who is legit? She has no frame of reference. She has to depend on the people she needs to replace to tell her if they need replacing!

If she doesn't take action soon with material changes she will be gone in a year by activists. There are so many overpaid, mediocre VP's, SVP's EVP's and Officers that talk a game to keep them around as a "taker". Time to see through it and act.

Last poster is right, look at how you got to where you are? It appears that there is no oversight or real ownership of the company. Looks like it's run by takers who will take as long as they can...seems anyone in managwment who really cares about the company either is long gone or has no voice. Hope that the new CEO will see clearly, maybe when she realizes how accepting the mediocrity and paying the takers will impact her career, she will.

Listen, the stock was hovering at $22.00 a couple of years ago. It suddenly rocked up to $32.00 for no reason whatsoever. Just stupid market people listening to BS from the ivory tower. Now the reality can't be ignored anymore, and the price will eventually drop back down to where it belongs.

Can MGo figure things out? Will she be able to make the hard choices that need to be made? Does she have the understanding of this business to make the right choices?
