Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Credit Cards

So my Manager pulls us all into a meeting and gives us the usual BS about how we need to keep up our work ,ect. Then he proceeds to tell us that according to HIS boss' boss that none of the jobs we do here are as important as signing customers up for these awful credit cards and that if we can't do it he'll have to hire people who will.

Is anyone else's kmart pushing these like there's no tomorrow?

Usually, banks will pay money for each credit card application ($13-20) even if the application is not approved. This is to get the personal information from the customer. Also, with a rewards card like 5-3-2-1 banks will usually cover the cost of the rewards if the company can sign up "X" amount of people in a certain amount of time. If the company does not sign up the "X" amount of people then they must pay the rewards. This is what it seems is happening here. If SHC does not sign up enough people then they must pay out the rewards, if they do sign up enough people then Citi will pay the rewards and get it back in the interest on the card.

To @1fuu I don't think the OP is trying to get something for nothing. The job description has changed without notice. You used to have a -- sell the customers products job & now you have a -- sell the fake members a credit card job.

If people are good at the credit, they should work somewhere else selling financial products and make some real money.

I work for Sears not KMART but that's what we have going on too. Getting credit is more important than anything else. I am pretty old and I'm used to stores trying to sell items through price, product mix and customer service.

This crazy credit nonsense is new to me. I understand encouraging the store card but this is a whole new level.

I don't know exactly all the benefits the CEO gets from this but credit cards through Citibank obviously give him something better than selling products.

Sales volume? Who needs it? Credit cards are the way to go. It's very strange.

Oh well. As my manager says, "do your job". If they want you to jump then you jump. ITS WHAT they pay you to do. Get over it and stop whinning. Don't like it? Leave, otherwise you do what they tell you to do in order to get a paycheck! It's not a charity, you don't get something for nothing.
