Shark Tank works because you have real professionals putting their own money into entrepreneurs who come up with business plans. In this god forsaken excuse of a show the whole premise is wrong - written by someone who watched BIG in the 80's and thought THAT was the toy industry!
The mentors have never actually made or been accountable for developing any toy themselves - they are loosely connected to the industry (and I'm being generous!) but claim to have some type of insight into what will be a successful toy (and folks, there's only ONE METRIC = profit!!!!). At least in other shows, the mentors actually come from the same industry and have some level of actual accomplishment.
The judges are 12 year olds - far too inexperienced, naïve, innocent and incomprehensible to give any type of opinion on what would make a successful toy. They're 12 for god's sake - they're already too old for the toy industry (which taps out at 7 yrs. old for everything except video games) and.....wait for it.........aren't part of the actual process on how toys are chosen and made in the REAL WORLD. Who in the hell would ever ask a kid what makes a good toy?! They don't know!!!! They just see something and react to it - this isn't insight, it's a cheap circus trick.
I just find it so difficult to understand how grown adults could ever have put up their company's money to fund such an ill conceived concept (if not abysmally executed one) when it's so OBVIOUS it would s---. The only thing I can think of is that Disney/ABC has had the last laugh and the ultimate revenge on Mattel, who so famously dissed them when they unveiled Ever After High. They literally have manipulated RD, SL and others into the company's final "GAME OVER". We can only pray this happens.
